Around where I live, its the same problem and its always with Dominoes. But it's okay with me. Sure Pizza Hut costs a bit more, but it tastes much better.

Although, 70 percent of the time I prefer to make my own pizzas, aside from the dough. EZ Pizza dough FTW! lol

dominoes is just plain dodgy... they always get my orders wrong... pizza hut isn't crash hot either, but it's the lesser of the two evils!

Cici's is better. Get a hell of a lot of food and drink for just over $6

When me and my wife order pizza we either order Little Caezars (sp?) or Hungry Howie's. But, for the most part, I like to make it from scratch. The only bad thing is waiting for the dough to rise. I usually set it aside and rise while I make my sauce, though.
We have had some problems with ordering from domino's, and I used to work for Pizza Hut, so I'm basically sick of their pizza. My wife LOVES their breadsticks though.

I call the franchise and complain, most of the time you get free food.

I don't have to put up with it, because I get free pizza from a local place.

I've noticed most of the little independent pizzarias do that, i think thats what makes the diffrence, and makes you want to go back to them.

Hey Nuks, how is howies? One of those recently opened up near where i'm moving to. i figure i'll give it a shot sometime. what's the general feel of the pie?

i used to know people in every pizza joint in my town. the little ceasar's got shut down for drug trafficking, and everyone else left their respective chains. i'd go where it was free. as of now though i try to stick to local shops. Mellow Mushroom if i need to go to a chain store.

Kabniel,
Howie's is really good. When me and my wife go, we get the garlic herb crust on our pizza. What's really cool is you can choose different types of crust toppings or whatever. The cheese crust is good, but really the garlic herb one is the best. It's like having breadsticks too! They have a special where you can get one large one topping pizza, 2litre and breadsticks for like $13. It's extra for the cheesesticks, but that's what we get. The crust toppings are free. If that one is like any other Howie's I have been to, they are usually pretty quick at making their pies and the price is good.

me n' ed's all the way for me. it is many, many levels above pizza hut, dominoes, panago... any of them. i havent had better. their specialty is thin crust, because they manage to get it wafer thin and keep it from cracking and flopping everywhere. not only that, but most of the time i dont do take out, so the actual restaurant factors in. pizza hut is getting to be a dirty place, and most others dont actually have a proper restaurant. me n' ed's has a pretty nice setup.... and a central fireplace that you can sit beside!

they've never screwed any orders up either now that i think of it.

The Imo's in Rolla makes homemade pizza sauce and includes the Imo's italian in it. Works wonders for Italian sausage & onion.

As for dough rising, try baking powder if you don't mind thinner and crispier crust. If you must have the thick crust, use yeast.

I have a pizza that I loved to make/buy called the SS. It was delicious, not very greasy, and really cheap.
Thin crust pizza with onion & green pepper. Include italian dressing in the pizza sauce. Sprinkle with black pepper and garlic salt as desired. Enjoy.

Imo's FTW. Big time. Best pizza in the midwest.

pizza in the midwest.

Thats an oxymoron lol

I live around Philly - so theres a pizza shop on every corner around here. I'm sure New York is just as bad in a lot of places, with all the Italians on the east coast. Anyways, I get real pizza around here. Not the crap a place like dominoes or papa johns might serve with american cheese and ketchup.

We have a couple mom and pop stores we usually order from. The wife prefers Papa John's. My all time favorite pizza joint is Gino's East in Chicago.

The Dominoes that just opened here is actually quite good, they're motivated to earn their minimum wage, like me at KFC, lol... Cici's is pretty good, for the price... I like Papa John's too, but about $20 for a small pepperoni plus a delivery woman that gives you your change in all one dollar bills and "forgets" a couple of them... makes me kinda glad I forgot to tip her, she remembered though. :D

I'd have to say Papa John's is my favorite, it just tastes real good, but being my favorite doesn't say much, if it doesn't taste cheap (ahem, school food, cough cough), then I'll most likely enjoy it. But seriously, the school stuff they served is a failed art project, they make it out of card board, red paint, and glue.

Ha, you guys call dominos pizza? Its all about the ma and pa pizza shops. Like this place by me called Pats Pizza. Walk in, get a seat and a basket of peanuts. Eat as many as you like while you wait, throw the shells on the ground. Best pizza around. Crust is thin as paper and crispy. Everything is homemade (except the cheese, and I don't see a slaughter house, so the meat is probably pre-killed).

I've eaten lots of food in lots of different places, and as pizza goes, it's pretty much the same. It's more a matter of the quality of the cook, not their geographic location.
I do have a soft spot in my heart for real Chicago style pizza in Chicago.
Still, well made Imo's wins.

I haven't had Dominoes or Pizza hut in about 8 or 9 years.

Huzzah for having an Ameci's near me!

Huzzah! Whatever that means!

So they still manage to have the ol' favorites such as pizza in your Yellow Zone hideout? Amazing...

thanks nuk

if anyone is ever in the ATL area, specificly snellville, there's a good Brooklyn style place on Hwy 124 called Uncle Vito's.

Or if you're on the opposite side of town, in the Cobb area. On the East-West Connector is "Brooklyn Pizza".

I can't find Chicago style in atlanta though. kinda irks me.

Domino's Death Disk? BLECH!
Pizza hut is not too far off.
Round Table is tolerable in a pinch.
Mountain Mike's is like being in Chicago except for the traffic and noise!

Home made is THE way to go. With rapid rise yeast you will have your pizza hot from the oven in less time than they could deliver you one. Oh and I really make my crusts in advance most of the time. You can freeze them, and take a dough ball out of the freezer before leaving for work in the morning, and it is ready to go when you get home. Punch it down, spin it out, top and bake.

I live right down the street from a small convenient store with a small deli, they make good pizza's, better than any other IMO.. They stack the crap up on the whole thing, it should probably be called the heart stopper.. But, across the street is another store ran by a family of Saudi Arabians, super nice people, they make awesome subs that are like 8 inches wide and a foot long. Good hamburgers too

Are you sure you weren't eating a cheeseburger at Burger King?

I'm just kidding man. But man would I love to have some real pizza like you guys are having. We have no local pizza shops. All chain stuff. The one time I had really good pizza was at a place in Chicago called "Geordanno's" or something like that. The pizza was like 1 inch thick. That was tasty.

But it's usually oven pizza or Hot N' Readys. $5 is all I have for pizza.

Another nice aspect of home pizza is you can experiment with things and not be bound to a menu.
I've found I love pineapple, onion, tomato, provel & fennel seed pizza. The only secret is letting the veggies drain for an hour or so before use after rinsing. Set the veggies in a collander in the fridge for an hour or so. This removes enough moisture to make it work well.

Make your own crust. It's incredibly easy & costs around 50 cents a pizza.
Thin crust is much easier than thick if you've never made bread before.
Then again, I don't always use wheat. Flax seed crust w/ dried rosemary tastes amazing with greek pizza.
