Welcome at my new project.

You've might noticed i already have a featured worklog running, but that one is on hold for +/- a month. Meanwhile i'm going to build this mod, actually to participate with the Dutch casemod championchip.

The subject is quite the same as the name for this mod, very industrial.

I've made some kind of casemod before, and that one was very populair:
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/57813/full.jpg
That photo came backfrom CeBIT 2005 in germany, but i have no other recent pictures of it.

This case will have a total different size, and the watercooling will be build in. Also that case had no paint, only metal and plastic wich was rusty, it became that rusty with special paint. I'll use some of that at this mod as well. Including damaged parts, dirt and scratches. The case will be completely black, bu the sides will have a black/yellow striping, like those warning signs you might know.

Let's start with this, 2 metal frames and some u-profile.
I can weld it myself, we have all the tools for it, including a heavy machine saw and a 1337 welding mask witch darkens itself when you start welding (they should create sunglasses like that!)
In the beginning i was tinking about using those 2 frames as a radiator, but i expected problems with oxidation due to the water which runs trough it. So i'll be using a normal 360mm radiator in the middle of this case.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/f48f3a018cea3d5cb16715098baa44b6/full.jpg
This is also 1 of the base materials. I even need much more of it. 3mm UVgreen and 5mm Black acrylic panels were used.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/04e8680036c44ddc7ce322c722a81c09/full.jpg
After some welding (i don't have any pictures while working on it, i rather keep my Canon EOS400D away from the hot metal parts and metal dust) Inside you see a Coolermaster centurion frame as a reference.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/07fb97697d111e98562c3bac633be288/full.jpg
Here you see the sidepanel, i took a sheet of meshX panel, bend the edges and it fits :) There is a plastic foil on it, in fact you wonder what that strange white surface is.

I have done much more work than this, but i think it would be better to spread the work i've done in multiple updates. It should be finished at the end of march, but after that date i can do some minor update you would barely notice at the photo's (software, details etc). The final is at the 22'th of april.

Let's hava update time :)

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/3ae3d0da8156676a37468bb7f8da5dad/full.jpg
Actually this old intercompost is the only part that will be shown outside, because i need some button's for the lights etc. I thought it would be a good controll panel for that.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/a53e5fa2d04747246fe11eaa672a4ce3/full.jpg
Next thing was the inside, there is a large aluminium sheet which covers the cable's, radiator and powersupply. Took some time to cut and fold it, but it fits very well.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/f026b8ab0e871b918dba86e01e1edf2f/full.jpg
These strips hold the aluminium cap on its place.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/c3c2bb99976971fdc4fad0b23efe8c9b/full.jpg
Also welded some holding frames for powersupply and radiator.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/b07abf8909c47e72faa5ec10a14a240f/full.jpg
After that the cover, including a 7xHDD bracket fits nicely.

Only a few days left before i had to show pictures of my case to enter the competition. Lot's of work left to do, and i'm not gonna make it, but at least i'm trying to get parts together to give a good idea how it should look like. Lights, electric stuff and cooling will be done after that.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/3ebd789bd3d19c7646182ccaf2fa67d5/full.jpg
The aluminium shield is hard to remove when all the hardware is in the case. I decided to make the HDD's removable

Like that :)

Just a shot while modding

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/b1bef5938a13a5c4f1069d03cdf0dedb/full.jpg
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/04a78efd4b5db2968e8c292430eaa9b5/full.jpg
Some nice shots of the plexi-stuff. Still wondering where they are for? I need 4 of them to use at the corners. Including 25 led's each to create nice light effects.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/2d7e3bdb50d8c4ec6fc1bca8729a58ef/full.jpg
While building this case i noticed a how-to on the internet to create a mini studio, so i build one. Actually i need some extra spotlights, all i have right now is a TL light and a flash unit. But the effect is already quite good.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/3c230bba5d3825c3166fec7629b14613/full.jpg
The HDD's on the pictures are dead ones, i'll be using 2 or 4 s-ata disks when the system will be finished.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/d7b8462d09aed1c5fd00164c40af98ac/full.jpg
I had some of these a.c.ryan cables, but they aren't the right size. So i decided to build myself a correct one.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/b9cc46b2ec3a6c71feb273715cf4e7c2/full.jpg
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/283e61a51f4dfc2aa79d7fbbeb0e1519/full.jpg
I cn fit the s-ata cable on this way, beneath the radiator, right to the motherboard.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/2812b06c2847b5384ea1f7bd2a0fad6a/full.jpg
I'd also glued plexi corner nr3

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/f3abf6796de9f1e2662890d06294cfd6/full.jpg
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/4402f6a8b1b1a329eeed35572f4ffb94/full.jpg
And here is the custom power cable. Only yellow and black, to fit the theme

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/75d8eda9cc256c4bff58b61694a0dfe5/full.jpg
Imagine yourself the sanding, dust removing and base painting, and then you'll get a black case, this is not final, but good to see how it looks in black.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/437ba93f9266116e9cb48194431cd48e/full.jpg
This week i also received some watercooling parts, like this pump. Actually it was just a little too big so i removed 1cm of acrylic with the metal saw, that worked even better than i tought :)

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/b646cd7ea5fbf224ab05127f6995de12/full.jpg
Left= normal, right= cutted.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/c7510c9db9c9e467d933baf9b5aea119/full.jpg
There is a place next to the power supply where the pump should fit. With some 90 degree corners i should be able to connect it to the rest of the system. It's hard to get it all connected on a nice way.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/1ee7d4434d4189b7b2b8a1f36d63668a/full.jpg
Hole for the pump and power supply. I want a radgrill, but still waiting for them (hury up a.c.ryan hehe)

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/31319c85db6f7c87ca0861924058bd83/full.jpg
*tadaa* reservoir is done.
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/3ef9dbf132bfcebc5a49e891c8e7a39d/full.jpg
Those drips are just water, not glue. It will be mounted on top of the aluminium cover, right above the radiator.

That's it :)

These are the pics i've made yesterday after a whole day of modding:

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/1514173b1737dd3a1b0683c0110dc47e/full.jpg
First the painting, yes it's yellow ;) But once i'm done it will be scratched, and dirty/brown.

After putting in the motherboard for the first time i've found a big problem:
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/197ba4a76b8f648b95bd9a74f18fbe32/full.jpg
When calculating the space for the motherboard i've forgotten the backplate, which is +/- 2cm. Well, let's start modding the problem....

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/e649e35250ca793b3eac3f663547927a/full.jpg
...by inserting 92mm fans. I think UV green isn't the best choice. Just black with some red led's wouldn't that be better? I've got some deep orange and yellow led's as well, but red gives it a more "danger" look.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/cc9109c16224bdfd51490c85976ec4c2/full.jpg
Those fit :D

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/7d4c13197cc897812d361e2a4d33a7d7/full.jpg
Only the cable needs some bending.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/b066c03fb49e60c2f2a99dae8b288335/full.jpg
Luky me, these things fit without problem ;) Only some smal gaps, but i was already planning to fit them with black silicone kit.

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/b7b206175ecd5ea13fb7f8e30feb93a9/full.jpg
To fit the fans on the right way i decided to make a cover for it. This gives me also the opportunity to fit leds in it and let the PCI-e cable run trough it, so actually it's not that bad to use 92mm instead of 120 ;)

http://tweakers.net/ext/f/acd4ce9db585e99763da4328b1aab8ce/full.jpg
http://tweakers.net/ext/f/11bf6ee5599c209c19f67c76a958f44c/full.jpg
Here it is including the cover and a hanging reservoir. I'm starting to hate that cover. For maintainance and while building the case it makes the work more time expensive. Because everything fit's only in 1 way, like putting a car engine together. Well, i have to deal with that.

About that powercable: I used some cables from a old power supply and i had some 90-degree s-ata connectors as well from a old supply. So i combined them. Simply.

I've made it to the final of the dutch casemod contest. Good, otherwise it would be useless to build this case ;)

The brown paint over here is the rust-paint in his beginning state. Just a little bit of rust.

On a dutch forum there is a lot of discussion about the rust, some like it, some really don't. Well, it takes a few day's until the whole rust process is done. So whitin a few days i will might remove it at some pionts to make it look better/more realistic.

I've could have done this mod without rust or dirt, but well, this is what I like, and this is what i've planned with this case.

I can see it working with the theme though....

Its supposed to be industrial, and when you think industrial, you think exactly what your portraying. I think your doing a bangup job mate keep it going.

An idea would to make black stripes on the yellow or something.
(I know youve already roughed up the paint...just a thought)
Similar to this:
http://www.cedarstape.com/images/headers/construction.jpg

Idk, just a thought of mine.

True about that the stripes, and it was my first idea as well instead of a long yellow line. But the problem is that you can't "roll" those stripes around a frame with corners. Still i think the yellow gives quite the same effect.

BTW, i removed some rust, not the large splashes, but more the thin layer of rust around them (actually the rust-fluid which has been smeared out) Looks better that way :)

I have a video for you, to show the "birth' of the led's in the corners. I've made some simple effects, but in fact everything can be programmed :)

TY!

Well, wiring it up is not a problem. (check out another project when talking about wires: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_ka5ztHOTM )

But the case is really frustrating me ATM.
Things just barely fit, or even worsers, they won't fit at all. It takes ages to assemble the case, and there are some small mistakes. Also because this case has been build in a hurry, i mean, i have only 1 sketch, and that's a idea of the outside. So i had nuo idea of what kind of hardware i was going to use and i havn't planned a watercooling setup.
While building 1 of my previously made projects i had no deadline, so i was able to build the case in my mind, and being able to see which points could cause a problem. And i had te time to solve it.

So by now the case is coming together and the hardware seems to be a tight fit. And i think i have no time left to add some logo's etc. on the sidepanels.
Well, on the other side, i'm in the finals, got some nice hardware, got a nice mod and it didn't cost me a lot of money.

Dutch casemod competition is done, didn't win any prices, but well, the top 5 was a very good selection of casemod's so it was worth the try.

Anyway, this week i'll be doing some cleaning etc. of my garage (I've bought some extra shelves to put my stock casemod parts on etc. ). And then.... Alien hospital!
