There is absolutely no way that golf isn't a sport. It isn't arguable. Golf is a great sport, and a fun one at that - at any age.

golf is an amazing sport. I used to play it, I've been thinking of getting back into it. We do a little putting and chipping around campus and in our dorms, but nothing more than messing around. And only a couple of us have clubs on campus, myself not being one of them atm.

I don't care whether golf is a sport or not. All I know is it is boring as hell to watch and unless you are drunk and thrashing a petrol golf cart around the course, boring as hell to play too.

Golf is a trip.
Right after college and prior to my current career, I worked at an ultra private golf club in GA. Like someone has to die just for a space to become a member.
I'll never forget what I learned. It doesn't matter how rich your are, most people stink at golf. After working there, I never feel bad about going out and hacking it up with buddies.
I also learned that your golf bag becomes proportionally lighter the more warm beers you drink that you stashed in your bag.

Well I can see some people like golf and some dont but I find it gets me out of the house for a few hours.I normally get nagged about doing things so I find it extremly relaxing.
Im now thinking of getting my own set of clubs can anyone recomend a good site to look at.

Buy clubs at a store. You want to know how they feel, if they are the correct length, etc. Don't buy your first set online, actually don't buy any online. As your height changes so will the length of club that is right for you. You want to buy clubs that have the right feel to it. Make sure you talk to a professional, whether it be a golfer, or a salesman who actually knows golf, they can help you out to determine good brands, right lengths, and a good price for you.
If you have a golfing club around you, go there and talk to a couple of members, a lot of the time they are more than happy to help someone who is interested in starting, they can recommend good places to get clubs, and supplies, good brands, etc.
I've been playing golf since I was in the sixth or seventh grade, it takes a long time to get good at it, but it only takes a couple of hits to decide whether you like the sport or not.
Good luck, and have fun on the course.

Thanks I have a friend whos family owns the course so I can play for free Im going to americangolf shop tommorow to have a look. I dont think I will grow anymore since Im just abit taller then my dad and my brother. Do you think 200 pound would be a good budget for buying my first set?

I don't know the prices in the UK that well, but that would buy you a decent first set around where I am. Just make sure you get a good deal, brand names and what not don't really matter with your first set, my first set was one of my grandfathers old clubs. The only thing I replaced was the putter (MIA) and the woods (they were wood, not titanium).

The biggest thing is get used irons. Golf club engineering hasn't changed in years. Every rich golf goober wants the latest and greatest, so you can get a phenominal deal on clubs that are a year or two old. Go with a big name brand go back a couple of years and your in sweet golf deal heaven. I have a set of Ping eye2s that are probably 6 years old and awesome. They only cost me around 180$ when they were 3years old.
Get steel shafts. Graphite looks cool but they are ridiculously hard to hit. You see pros still using metal shafts, you now they arn't out of style.
Talk to someone that knows what they are doing, not necessarily a salesman.
Get some cheap drivers, if you get good you'll end up buying some really good ones in a year.
Hope this helps.
