As promised STORM'D is the second in the series of plex "theme" case mods.

Storm'd is based on the newer model Sunbeam LED UV blue plex case this time and again will feature "Bolt on" type machined plex highlights as well as some Storm features :) to keep it t theme case

The Sunbeam case was chosen for its extra features and the fact that its main outer structure is held together using 4 solid looking metal rails...

these shiny metal rails have a great contrast against the clear plex and will fit in nicely with what i have planned.

Due to all the "one off" fabrications that need to be done with STORM'D i won't be able yo finish it as fast as PeRs-pLeXeD! but hope to have a finished product by weeks end :)

Sunbeam put a quality package together and you really do feel its Xmas when you get this home and open it!.....well xmas with that "ikea feel about it"!!!!

You can also see just like PeRs-pLeXeD! the main feature of the case will be its 2 dual front 120mm UV fans! this time i'm going with the purple, as this colour fits in well with the STORM theme,

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_7761.jpg

NOW! @ this stage of the mod! i have 2 trains of thought about it!

the first is to use the dual 120's the other is to use Dual 80's! with 120mm outer shouds.... i will first fabricate up the 80 and shrouds as im very keen to see how this will look!

if i don't like the effect from the dual 80's then i can move onto the 120 idea.

Back to the modding :)

The front of the case... to give it a more appealing hevier look will get a custom laser cut outer frame. the frame will be beveled @ 45 dgree on the router and dilled with counter sunk M5 Steinless steel hex heads.

To compliment and fitin with the front theme a smaller frame will also be installed to surround a pr of counter sunk Dual custom made "defyant style " STORM RES's.

LEFT front frame RIGHT top res frame.

The finish on these custom laser cut frams is class all the way!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_7982.jpg

You can see the idea of how i want the frame to sit! the frame will still be beveled drilled countersund and flame polished again.

First off it's the top Res frame that gets a pimping.

The frame with the STORM RES's.

The frame will sit around the 50mm OD x 180mm STORM RES's will sit down into the top of the case and be "half in and half out"

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_7985.jpg

The STORM RES frame is taken over to the router and given 45dregee outer edging

Time to "cutup" the top of the Sunbeam for the STORM Res's

The STORM RES's can now sit down into the case.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8014.jpg

The oringinal thought of joining the 2 STORM RES's was to drill a joiner hole in each, tap thread and use a brass threaded joiner......

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8015.jpg

I really wasn't happy with this look....and the fact that the brass peice moved the to res's apart to far for my liking.....

the soloution was to cut a small plex joiner drill out the holes slightly larger and then glue the joiner in.

For the ends ive had 50mm x 10mm thick laser cut ends made.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_7989.jpg

These are glued on and left to sit for 10 before water-testing

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8032.jpg

The STORM RES's will need to have an in and out let! to allow the "flood gates" to flow! ")

Over to the drill press for some drilling!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8043.jpg

back for some threading!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8044.jpg

Some barb fitting!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8046.jpg

and some testing on the case!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8049.jpg

The barbs will feed back off the STORM Res'sto the pump rad and block,no external plumbing will be seen this time.

With that out of the road i really wanted to get a start on the first of the 2 front fan ideas!

The first one uses Dual 80mm STORM inlet fans these will have a customised plex hevy metal shroud around them giving the illusion of 120mm fans!

The idea was discovered purley by mistake! after cutting the hole for the first of what was going to be the Dual 120mm STORM fan bracket!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8058.jpg

The innner circle was taken over to the router and given a good 45degree rip!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8059.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8060.jpg

Next was to flip it over and mark the holes for the SS hexheads!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8061.jpg

After a drilling!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8063.jpg

Next was to do some sexy counter sinking! this time ive gone closer to the "edge" so that the tool cuts down into the side of the bevel'd edge and allows the bolts to be seen from the sides .

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8072.jpg

Withit sitting on the facia panel i think you wil agree that the front surround add to the size of the 80mm fan and gives it amuch larger appearance.

With 2 of these i think is should look very "beefy"

I got around the making the second front Storm Vent today, i'm very pleased with the look of them as a pair!

The second one was made as the first was.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8075.jpg

as you can see in the above pic..the sight of the original plex front panel now looks way out of place! to fix this and add a contrast to the machined plex surrounds a Smoked or tinted plex background is cut and added.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8076.jpg

Next will be to make surrounds for the CDROM and Matrix orbital display.
these be be a rectangle shape.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8077.jpg

Centers are marked and cut out again in a frame'd shape.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8079.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8081.jpg

Next! was the BIG one! beveling a 45 degree angle on the main fron frame.

This was a steady and slow effort...one slip here .......

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8084.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8083.jpg

Really keen to check out how the Clear plex on Dark plex was going to look!

The first thing to do was to start peeeeling off some of that kaky brown protective paper!

next was to drill and cut back the original holes that would be needed for the case's panel buttons and io panel.

as you can see its a pretty complicated bunch of holes!!more than most cases!

i would have to really measure up and take my time cutting these!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8179.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8180.jpg

after a bit of cutting in the dark plex the new holes where done.

I also used the flame teknique to smooth out the edges of the holes and give them a clean look.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8185.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8190.jpg

Defyant

For those of you wondering what the "Flame teknique" is!?.... this is it!--->

After cutting, say a 80mm blow hole , either with a hole saw or jigsaw! or if you must... a dremal...your left with a ruff edge from the cut.

You can! sand and polish this smooth and shiny...how ever! if you have a bit of practice under your belt..a small flame torch , you can shine these back to a nice fluid looking finish.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8192.jpg

Don't hold the flame in one spot for tooo long! you will bubble and fry! Move back and forth over a small area till you see the plex melt back-in on itself and shine.. very much like mig welding,

Also work the plex just above the blue tip of the flame! not the orange bigger part...come inside that larger flame to the top of the blue tip.
Get right in close! and really watch the plex! as close as you can!!
and be prepared to quickly BLOW out little spot fires that start up on the plex.

Happy flameing!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8195.jpg

You can see that nice melted smooth look to the edge.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8199.jpg

the same is again repeated the the whole tinted panel around the cdrom hole and the whole outer rim.

The Storm rings are added!

(ive decided NOT to flame polish these!) as having them FULLY polished will not give the lighting effect im after!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8201.jpg

the top Frames are added as well.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8202.jpg

I think you guys will agree it has a very crisp classy clean look about the front of thr case now, and im happy thats its all still pretty much an original idea.

and of course! how could i end a post without some mandatory lighting effects :)

i personally love it!

i think that the opportunity here for me to have a ball with diff lights really presents it self!

the larg outer frame can easily be one colour with the Storm rings another! but i'll prolly stick with a blue or a purple to keep in with the STORM'D theme.

Needing an excuse to use my sexy new router bench! i was off to the plex shop today for what will be the second last time in this project.

Picking up some "cut to size" panels for what will become STORM'D new overlay side panels..

The Original idea was to leave the case clear! but this case is being "STORM'D" so it needed to be Darkend all round.

Using overlay panels keep in with the over all plex theme.

5 new smoked panels and 2 new front clear panels.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8420.jpg

Starting with the top.

These panels are cut to the .5mm and are a perfrct fit!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8428.jpg

The new side overlay panels fit snug as well.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8429.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8430.jpg

The orignal side clear plex panel has 2 holes already cut for 2 x 80mm fans! thinking that not a bad idea! i decided rather then cover them up!

i'll add some storm rings as well and make a full feature.......this won't the the cases main side feature! bigger and more special things for that.

Over to the drill press some new rings are cut..... this time rather than make thick clear rings like the front..i decided to go for a more subdue'd sleek look...something that won't stick out like a sore thumb!

the rings are made from the same smoked plex as the overlay panels and arefrom 4.5mm thick plex.

really wanted to get the side "storm vents" perfect! altho they come off looking ok! they still needed a lot more work!

I decided that the HEX head bolts i was going to use....didnt suit the side vents as much....a trip back down to the local fastners shop and i came home with these sexy little thangs!

these are just perfect! i much prefer the way they will sit flush with the ring .

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8480.jpg

Back of with with side rings and it was time to give em a "flamin"
doing the inner small holes and the inner ring itself but leaving the outer angled edge still with a machined look.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8538.jpg

With that done!

i relised that there was no way to slide the side panel off with the fans still attached to the inside of the case!!!

a qik fix was to make the whole overlay panel and fans/storm rings as one unit! then bolt that unit onto the orig side panel.

a large clean sqr opening is cut and flamed smooth.

The original Front cdrom and top panels wernt 100% square...i free hand cut them and then dremal cut the insided out and filed as streight as i could get them.....

Still looked a bit "dodgy",,, so i had 2 new panels precut and gave them the once over on the router bench! hehehe love saying that now!!!! "the router bench" !

in action!!!!

One is a "dummy panel" and is goin to also act as the front mount for the Matrix Orbital lcd display.

The second is for the cdrom.

With the crom pump and matrix LCD out of the way!

was time to move onto what will be the "Storm Tunnels"

The idea of the Storm tunnels will be to not only look cool but to help deliver clean air to the centre of the case.

Originall i was goin to use clear plex 80mm tubes! but had a couple of add "Baddong" cooling ducts and thought i'd give these a shot.

I also like the colour!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8710.jpg

the first idea was to make some custom adaptors to bolt the tunnels onto the fan!
then i relised that the fans themselfs could be modded to accept the tunnels.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8711.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8712.jpg

The solution was to trim away some of the fans mounts allowing the Storm Tunnels to slide over the left over edge.

CONCEPT! / light testing!!

From the start the original idea was to have lightening bolts, 2 on the sides and 2 smaller ones on the top of the case and one on the inside on the motherboard cover.

after making the original "plex flames" idea , i knew it was possible! but...... while making the "Bolt" i came up with a much much better idea! stay with me!

a few weeks back i made what will be the "STORM'D" logo and bolt for the "off side" of the case.

The letters are plain bold..i didn't want anything too fancy to take away from the "bolt" wich will be the main side feature.

The letters were simply printed out then traced onto clear 3.5mm plex.

The "bolt" was drawn "freehand" on some scrap plex.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8633.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8635.jpg

Over to the bandsaw to cut it all out

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8638.jpg

The "bolt" was a slow process! i'm not looking forward to doing 5 of these!!!!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8636.jpg

But with a some patience and steady hand! it come out uncraked! :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8639.jpg

With the tape pealed off and a qick "frosting" almost look good! ( a good idea for anyone else! would be to do the frosting before you cut the pattern!)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8791.jpg

Spread out with the Logo and the bolt this is how it will look on the side of the case.....

NB!! This is not the main side, this is the "off side" mother board side of the case.

And you have to imagine that this will be over tinted plex! so the contrast will be alot more effective then over the brown paper.

this was never going to work :(....... the light will just not flow evenly along the bolt.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8649.jpg

after a day on the "think"! ....i came up wth this solution!

using some old scrap EL wire from my old "light tubes" days from HP2 i thought about "channeling" the EL wire along the back of the smoked plex panel
under the The Bolt.

USING YELLOW SO NOT TO WAIST my BLUE stock of EL.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8792.jpg

a scrap peice of smoked 3.5mm plex

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8793.jpg

The Bolt is placed on top and with a scratchmarker traced so to give me a chanel to grove

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8795.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8796.jpg

The using a simple round engraving top on the trusty dremal i groved the chanel for the EL stip to sit in.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8799.jpg

Next was to press and just for now! tape in the EL wire stip down...the end result will be "Glued" as a more permanent solution.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8802.jpg

Flip the mod panel over

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8803.jpg

like i said! this is all trial and error stuff atm! and after playing arouns some more! i decided to ditch the external PLEX Bolt altogther!!!!

and go with just the EL stip under the Tinted plex!!!

This give a much sharper clean lightening effect, and in "BLUE" i think will look stunning.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8814.jpg

Not content with just a single bolt effect im practicing "splicing" and re-joining the EL wire!

This will take some more practice as i need to shorten the contact area to get rid of the "dead spot" in the effect! but im sure with some more practice
and using the BLUE EL i should pretty much get it looking ok!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8823.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8826.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/CONCEPT/IMG_8828.jpg

The funny part is! EL is noise sensitive!!! so you can imagine Zak and myself sitting round and making "thunder" and "Crack" noises to watch our lightening bolt flash :P

Defyant

update!!!

ok! after much deliberation on my part! i decided to still run the EL wire...but not to join as seen before.

this time i will simply run 3 bolts! that originate from the single source.

and will use some freshly brought Blue EL this time.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8969.jpg

Using the same technique shown above a groove or channel is engraved in the smoked overlay outer panel.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8972.jpg

the channel is blown clean

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8975.jpg

and the first of the bolts is layed in the channel and is temporarily taped in before more permanat glueing is applied.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8977.jpg

All three bolts are layed in connected to a common power and a thin beed of glue is applied and allow to dry.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8978.jpg

The original plex panelis then drilled to allow the EL wire loom to feed thru and layed over the smked plex and bolted down.

A sandwich effect where the EL sits between the 2 panels.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_8979.jpg

A qick "lights out" test shows how well the wirie contrasts behind the tinted smked outer panel.

to help case cooling ive decided to add a mesh grill right above the HDD, this will allow the HDD to run cool and keep internal temps down.

From front! to Rear!

You all know of course STORM'D will be water cooled, for the job of cooling water i've selected the BIX single 120 rad, with enuf air flow this rad should comfortably handle the job of keeping hardware temps to a reasonable level.

Again using the "PIGGY-BACK" style of mounting.

first obsticle to get around was the fact that the SUNBEAM case only has a 80mm hole @ the rear!!

There was no real way to simply cut the hole larger....there just isn't enuf room...and somthing ppl should take into a real consideration when choosing a SUNBEAM case!!!!

I'd have to use an adaptor!

An old 80-120mm clear plex adaptor i'd had laying around came to the rescue,

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9047.jpg

The next obsticle to the PIGGYBACK mount, was side slide panel!

On the SUNBEAM cases the side panel SLIDES out from the rear ! it dosn't open away like conventional cases.
and becasue the RAD is a 80-120mm adaptation it hangs past the side of the case by just a few anoying millimeters.

The solution is to make the RAD Modular! the RAD+FAN+ADAPTOR assembly has to some how be "MOVABLE" to allow the side on STORM"D to slide out.

Heres what i came up with.

The idea was to extend the original fan mounting holes one the back panel in a figure 8.

the bit of plex left between the 2 holes is dremeled away.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9044.jpg

Next was to add a "LOCKING" system to the the ADAPTOR

The orig holes are thread tapped , HEX head bolts are fed thru, locking nuts are added to the rear and a decent glop of glue will hold them in place.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9051.jpg

When mounted to the RAD and EverCool Allu 120 fan, the assembley looks like this.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9053.jpg

After initial testing to see how strong the assembly would be, i decided that adding holes to the ADAPTOR would not weaken it's over all strenght and allow the 120 fan to draw in some extra needed air and help get over the restriction of the 80mm hole.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9055.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9056.jpg

Last was to simply LOCK the unit into place!!!

The larger holes allow the HEX head bolts to pass thru the panel... they then slide lock down and secure on the smaller holes.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9071.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9079.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9069.jpg

A simple "locking" device will be added to ensure the rad dosnt "unlock" itself

the the tight fit! and the wieght once filled should ensure thisdosnt happen.

All that will be needed as to leave a little extra slack in the Water hoses that lead out to the rad to ensure the modular design works. :)

On the home stretch!!

Todays lil effort really moves this mod along :)

Tis was off to the local fastners shop to pickup the last and final batch of HEX heads.

I even managed to pich up replacemant HEX head bolts for HDD CDROM and case screws!!! altho i wont be using any on this mod i can sure find uses for these
sexy lil things on other mods!!!!!

Ive lost count how many hex heads are in this mod! and to be honest with the price of these things per item! i really don't wanna think about it :P

but the mod wouldn't half as special with em so i'll shut up :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9089.jpg

First thing this morning was to go back over and rework a few niggly things.

Its was pointed out that the over hang on the internal STORM duct grills could be seen.

A retrim fixed these :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9094.jpg

The Split loom cover that i's used on the wire for the 4 STORM duct fans was a bit bulky looking,,, so all the wires were redone and covered using more flexible
techflex.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9090.jpg

The pump also got the Techflex treatment :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9111.jpg

Next was to bolt the REAR STOM duct panel back on.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9113.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9115.jpg

this is more for asthectics more than any pratical reason! i just thought it would be a nice touch to add a plug in panel somewhere into this mod :P

its a simple 12mm strip of clear plex, that will sit along side of the STORM Ducts and work as a wire tidy :)

ive also added a Molex to supply power to the HDD as you will see further on.

2 x RCA power plugs will supply power to the Fans and to the pump.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/DSCN2025.jpg

The other 2 holes will act as wire tidys for the split loom.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/DSCN2037.jpg

.
http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/DSCN2051.jpg

Time to get down to some spaghetti management :)

With the Wire tidy secured in place and the fans and pump "hard soldered" to the RCA plugs its time to feed and cover the front panel wires.

These were a bit of a pain in the proverbial to do... because of the "tight fit" but the end result was well worth the effort.

The same splat loom is used for the SATA cable and some simple cable clamps are used to run the cable in the right direction.

I had to think about this next idea for a few weeks!! the original plan to hold the top water tanks in place , was to glue small plex plates into the sides of the tanks

like plan flaps, then drill holes and bolt the tanks down onto the top of the case!

well i gotta admit! i wasnt keen to spoil these sexy lookin little tanks by gluing ugly wings!

today it came to me! a "locking slide latch type system"!!! yup! a mothfull in theory! but in practice a really easy simple design!

its kinda hard and ling to explain so add comment and hope the pics tell it right :)

The latches!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9181.jpg

these connect to the existing top bezel bolts and silde back and forth

The Strom Res's have groves cut @ both eands ..these will be cleaned and flame polished!!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9183.jpg

The Storm res's can then be lowered in from the top of the case and locked into place using the slide latch system.

Time to test the Storm Res's in the case.

this was a great momemt :) i was itchin to get a full look @ how the top of the STORM'D was going to look with the paper off.

Off with the brown paper and on with a fesh smoked plex top panel :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9193.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9195.jpg

Next was to put the top bezal or "Storm Tank flange"!!! and bolt it down

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9198.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9199.jpg

Bolt the lock slides onto the existing 2 innner middle bots @ each end

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9205.jpg

Theres only a few mills of movement in the slides, but the tanks were made to be a tight fit so thats all that will be needed to lock them into place.

the original plan was for STORM'D to go streight on display!

but A VERY BIG plee form my son Zak for this to become his new PC has won out :)

The PSU is a KIMEX brand 550watt chosen because i like the Black finish to it.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9229.jpg

As seen below the orig idea was to use a a SFF atx mother board! the small board "when stealthed" would have allowed for an area to hide nasty cables!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9232.jpg

BUT! since this this is now goin to be Zaks PC it was decided that a new P4-3.4 cpu will be used in a Asus P5GDC-Delux board a new XFX 6600GT with a Gig of GEIL ram added.

Prolly doing a case like this the justice it deserves :)

For the bolting in of the cards and blanks ive gone with the some sexy SS HEX Heads with washers.

these are actually way easier to install and suit the theme.

Going for some more "uptown" looking RCA style plugs this time for power.

For the top Dual STORM Res's i wanted a intense but even light.

The choice of light is a 4" CCF tube.

Not on of the cheeper ones that can be brought from PC shops but on of the more expensive ones from Jaycar.

Ive often seen a few horror stories about the cheeper ones dying and taking out whole systems with them.

Touch wood in 2 yrs of using the Jaycar CCF's and inverters, iv'e never had a prob.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9280.jpg

I decided just to make the light a bit more "robust" to cover the CCF with some clear plex tubing.

Cutting the Clear plex tube to the right lenght will allow me to "anchor" it to the top of the case with fear of braking the raw CCF

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9281.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9286.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9287.jpg

a "dob" of glue is udes to secure the CCF inside the Plex tube

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9292.jpg

then some HeAT SHRINK on the ends and the Light is ready to go in.

what would a Defyant mod be with-out a motherboard cover of some sort! ?

The idea was NOT to box the board in again, but like PeRs-pLeXeD! make just a feature wall.

Using the Same 3.5mm plex the sheet was cut so that would simply slide into place.

When an upgrade or system check is need 4 screws will allow the cover to again be easily removed.

TO keep in-theme with the rest of the mod the cover will have a small aire mesh grill above the NB chipset and SS HEX heads bolts will be used

to dress the cover up a bit.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/WORKLOG/IMG_9539.jpg

The cover after having its bolts screwed in and its small grilled glued into place can be slid into the case and screwed into place

i personally love this look! and think its the best and most simple cover ive done yet...the shine give the inside of the case an infinite "depth" about it as well as highlights the green tubes and all the SS hex bolts.

looking @ STORM'D i really wasnt happy with the side rings!and since i decided to remove the "side panel fans" altogether and run them as "passive vents" i decided that a bit more "storming" was needed!

Decided to replace the whole side panel with a nice new peice of 6mm thick #512 tinted plex.

I also decided to to a bit more STORMing of the internals!

First off this morn was a trip to the plastix, to pick up the 3 new peices of plex.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/STORMD%20EVO/IMG_0150.jpg

Next was to start on what will be the new side STORM rings.
ive decided to make 4 and have a couple spare for the next mod!!!

Using the same technique as bfore, its just a ,matter of cutting a 120mm x 10mm thick plex ring

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/STORMED/STORMD%20EVO/IMG_0151.jpg

then using a 80mm cut the centers out the these
