Ok, so im getting ready to buy my video card for my budget gaming rig Mr.Slacker helped me pick out the GeForce 6600 256MB, but since then Ive gathered some extra dough and was wondering if I could go a little higher on performance. Either a 6600GT 128MB or a Geforce 6800 128MB? Im really leaning towards the 6800, but wanted some opinions first.

go with an ati x800, x800pro or xl. theres a guy selling one in mint condition for $360Cad with silencer 5 rev2 if you're interested. ati will give you more for the money.

$360! Yeah right man, my top price for a vid card would be $190.

$360cad with the $50cad silencer. the card alone would be around $250usd and it would be a lot better but you can get what you want. a 6600gt 128mb wont get u far tho.

yeah i would rather get this. there are gc20 memory chips on it and you can overclock them to 1000mhz ddr and im pretty sure you can oc the gpu as well, plus you get 256mb on it. this is the best you can get for that price.

How good would gameplay be on games like Doom 3, Half LIfe 2, BF 2, and UT2K4 on high graphic settings?

depends on the rest of the setup but it will perform better than the 6600gt

Well, the rest of my setup is pretty good, athlon 64 3000+, 1GB RAM, LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra, and now that video card.

i'd go with 6600GT and save your cash. if u have $200, it doesnt mean that you have to spend all of that money. 6600GT is a greta card for the money and it will be able to play most games on medium/high settings.

Ok, if I want to put the extra money in my computer where should it go?

MrSlacker

no where. dont, in a year, its gonna be old anyways. put it in a bank, get something that will last longer.

So the 6600GT wont be old in a year? If I have the money why not go for a 6800 or the X800?

did you look at benchies? how much better is 6800 and x800? im not home right now so i dont have time to look for them. those cards are not that much better. look at benchmarks, look at prices, then see if its worth it.

By what Ive read, it looks like if you want the maximum visual quality out of games then go with the 6800, but if you want good performance while saving some cash go with the 6600GT. What do you need to have dual monitors? Do you need dual DVI out?

MrSlacker

for dual monitors all u need is 2 monitor outs. most cards have 1 DVI and 1 VGA. there are VGA->DVI adaptors and vise/versa. so u'll be fine

the 6800 is overclocked 6600

the 6800 and 6600 are completly different cores and the 6800 is a 400Mhz core or something like that and the 6600 core is like 500Mhz core so there completly different cards but the 6800 would be the card to go with
