Ok, so I just got told tha my parents are giving me $500 to spend on up grading my system. I'm not asking why, but I think its because they feel bad because they have been spending alot more $$ on my litle sister and none on me. So I'm happy. Now I don;t tknow what to upgrade. Heres my current set-up:

P4 3.0 Ghz Northwood
1 Gig standard RAM
120 Gig HDD SATA
120 Gig HDD IDE
CD-RW
DVD-Rom
ATI Radeon 9800XT 256mb
19 inch Sceptre LCD
Gigabyte GA-8IK1100 REV.2
on board audio
400 WATT PSU (came w/case)
ATI TV Wonder PRO
Microsoft Wireless PCI card.

Thats all, for speakers I use a 10 year old pair of head phones, not cheap though, there nice.

So tell me your thought on what to upgrade :D . I REALLY want to ditch my mobo for an AMD 939 one, and a new processor, I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good one. The gigabyte is nice, except its wired wrong and if I try using the front USB ports, *fizzle* bye-bye mobo.

And if theres a better place for this, please move it, thought is encompased everything so I put it here.

ypu have a pretty nice rig there. if u want to upgrade it, go with 3200 Venice and a DFI motherboard. this will leave you some money for a better PSU.

I'd say keep the mobo and ram upgrade the psu, get another sata(kill the IDE, and some more ram. overall that mobo and processor aint to bad, you wont be able to find much a perforamce boost for ur priceline unless u get like 1500+

PS ditch the 9800xt and get the liquad metal cooled x800

this goes about $30 over budget, but it is an outline.
Mobo:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813136158
best board for overclocking that there is at the moment. SLI capable as well.
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103537
3000 venice. overclocking champ.should be able to get 2.2 at least.
Video card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143026
this card is already overclocked and BFG are have great customer support from what i've heard.great gpu as well.

Mobo:170
Cpu:146
Vid:212
total:528 + shipping.
this rig will be fast as well as very upgradable.if u will probably never use sli, u can get the non SLI version of the mobo. if u wangt sli, u could get a cheaper vid card.

ok keeping the cpu is not good. After it was hitting 108 C it isn't benig itself, so a new one would be good. Thanks for the replies.

id keep everything, but splurge on the video card for like a used x850xt for like 300 and a new psu and different ram

If you dont have enought cash leave the ram alone

seems to me that xbrid has the right idea. Though it would be a good idea to replace the power supply.

If you go with Xbird idea on system with SLI. you will need at least 480W PSU and using the one that came with the case is not always a good idea (If its a no name replace it). the MSI version of the same card is about 180.oo saving your 30.oo at www.mwave.com.

as everyone has stated. Replace the PSU. Get a good name one and you will have less problems (Stay away from the X-connect PSU. I have heard more crapped out than worked good).

im no saying that i disagree with you, but how do you know? Most people that have theirs crap out will post it on the net and the ones that work, wont get posted, its the same idea how some people think the 6800nu will get unlocked with like a 80 perent chance, cause they only hear about the people that unlocked it and not the ones that dont.

i have done research on the ultra ps and even tho i dont want to believe it ive found it has a faulty rail and after being yelled at on another thread i apologize for acting so harshly.

2 out of 3 friend have had problems and one with a problem killed a complete machine & smoked the PSU. I was considering one back in December but thats when all of the reviews and rail issues started coming out in friends.

Dont worrie .. I dont take things personal.
