View Full Version : Problem upgrading to Vista
I'm trying to upgrade to 64 bit Vista Ultimate from 32 bit XP Home
I get this message

When I try to boot from the disc, it only gives me the option to install, not upgrade,
Can I only upgrade to 64 bit Vista from 64 bit XP?

I believe you can only upgrade vista 64 bit from xp 64.

So I'll have to clean install it. Will I have to format?

Same thing bro. Let us know how you like it. BTW, stupid question time.. you do have a 64 bit processor right?
Yes, E6700. I'll have to hook up an extra hard drive and back up a ton of stuff onto it.
not true, install over XP, i know its not recommended, but your windows and program files registery will remain intact as RESPECTIVE.OLD
this way you keep your files without formatting, once in you can del your old XP, if it fails you can revert to XP without re-installing.
Yeah, I just found out from someone on another forum. All I'll need to do is re-install my programs, right?

Wait, why not just use the file and settings transfer wizard? then you can format and do the fresh install.

Elaborate how to, and why it would be better. Quickly!

Whoops, going to sleep. It's 25 to one in the morning, so you're gonna have to say hello to my leetle friend (www.google.com). :p
