Here is my problem... I'm trying to do a little non computer related mod stuff.. with computer mod parts ;). I kinda sorta need a way to plug in a set of cold cathodes (http://www.xoxide.com/dual-white-cold-cathode-kit.html) into a wall outlet... How would I about riggin up an adapter to do so?

well, you need a power supply to convert the 120v AC current into 12V dc current. You could try and get a transformer from Radio shack or somewhere else, such as this one; http://www.oselectronics.com/ose_p17.htm

well first you need 12 for the CCFL
the wall outlet has WAY more than that
you could use a transformer from an old stereo or something to give the right current, and after that its just of mater of splicing and soldering
BUT WHATEVER YOU DO< DON'T PLUG THE CCFL DIRECTLY IN TO THE WALL !!
<edit> lol you beat me to it

The easiest way is to buy a power pack like this:

Find one with a 12v output that can supply sufficient current to the cathodes.

On Newegg there is this thing called a USB 2.0 to IDE adapter kit. In the box, there is the USB to IDE adapter, and a nifty power adapter that converts wall outlet 120V to 12VDC and 5VDC in the form of a molex connector. It delivers 2A of power on each 5V and 12V line.
The USB to IDE adapter piece never worked for me, but the power adapter works just fine. I use it whenever I want to test out a fan or try out a light.
Hope that helps.
