Death Valley at Night (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/image/0705/deathvalleysky_nps_big.jpg)
That my friends, is beautiful.
Hmm, while were on the topic of Panoramic images... how do they do that? Is it a special camera or is it a lens that they use for ultra wide angles?
Oh man, the image I could get of Lake Coeur d'Alene (http://images.google.com/images?q=Lake%20Coeur%20d%27Alene%20&hl=en&safe=off&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi) with a panoramic camera! Lake Coeur d'Alene is supposed to be the most beautiful Alpine Lake in America, I think I heard from someone that it scores pretty high on the "Most Beautiful Lakes of the United States" and supposedly doesn't do too bad on the world list too. And just think... thats my backyard. lol cool. :)
Anyways, just thought I would share that picture! Pretty breathtaking if you ask me. ^_^
Heck, it might make for a good wide screen or multi-monitor background!

I don't think they use a special lens.. I think it's more that they take pictures from multiple angles on like a tripod, then find common spots on each picture, and use like Photoshop to bring them all together into "one" image. I think I had a tutorial on that in a Photoshop book I got from my library, but I skimmed it so I could be wrong.
Death Valley is in Cali. Been there. Very cool stuff. +rep for the find

I think they have it on a tripod (like .Mal said), and they move the camera over a little, probably have it on a remote control swivel or something, and take a few pictures and then put them together (also like .Mal said, lol). I believe the stand the camera's on has to be on level ground, or level itself...

Death Valley at night is just incredible. I like how it looks like that rock traveled to it's current location on it's own power. The first time I saw Death Valley I was moving to southern California. I stopped to water the cactus and when I looked up I was just awe struck. Super clear night and TONS of stars. As I was getting back in the U-Haul, I noticed lots of little red dots, staring back at me from afar...
To make panoramic photos, they do take multiple shots from a tripod and use Photo stitching software to combine them. The rule of thumb is to take pictures that overlap by 50%. This makes it easier for the software to find reference points.
I used to have a copy of software that came with a digital camera, but it will not work on Windows XP... I do know there sis some free stitching software, you just have to look.
