I live in Florida, in Lake City (where I-10 and I-75 meet) and the fires are creeping closer and closer to where we live. They're currently threatening a town called Deep Creek, north of us, and are scheduled to arrive near I-10 by 4-5 am.
Pray if you do. :(

Some things you can do are.
- Block your gutters and fill em with water.
- Have hoses and buckets ready to put out spot fires
- Clean up all leaf litter around your house
- Evacuate the elderly
- Make sure pets are safe
- If you have a pool clear it of any pool toys or anything around it in case a fire helicopter wants to refill its bucket or the FD want to use it for a water supply
- Give FD guys food and water.
- Either use a smoke mask if you have one or wet Flannels as masks if the smoke gets bad
- If you have any plants or trees close to your house cut them out if the fire comes closer
- Pack your car with the basics Water, Food, Medication, Passports, Birth Certificates, Hard Drives.
- Don't pack furniture it is safer in your house or anything else large as if the roads get closed due to smoke or fallen trees and such and you have to be driven out by the Fire Department they will only let you take what you can carry so don't bother packing anything big or heavy.

It said on the News you can wet a blanket and breath through it for a respirator.

We've had smoke in my part of Lake County (near SR 50 & 27) but there are no fires at my doorstep, thankfully.
All the outside school activities got canceled/moved indoors though.

Sorry for two consecutive posts but I had to post this:
Birds are committing suicide!
Apparently because of all the smoke, they are flying into buildings and dying instantly or shortly thereafter because of neck injuries.
Any other Floridians see this on the news? I can't seem to find an article on it on the internet.

It just stopped hailing here. More than Likely the smoke is getting to there little bird brains.
Hopefully the rain puts them out.

So far we're safe, it still hasn't crossed I-10 yet. Keep your fingers crossed though, wind is supposed to pick up again some tomorrow, but it's coming with a cold front, which may help...
Today was actually less smoky than normal, and there was some rain south of us on the way north from Gainesville...not on us of course though...
