Here is what I was thinking about buying a 86' Monte Carlo SS.
Cheap enough to pay half down. Fast enough do get er' done.
The one standing up here has a 454 in it.

I like some imports, but I'm all for Corvettes to-the-bone. In fact, I could buy a twin turbo hood ($1500) for under a grand. Anybody want a stock C4 hood w/ a white stripe? :D

Should be titled Muscle Vs High Technology. ;) IMO the latter is where US cars lag behind badly.

Ec;
The only problem with your plan is that the 86 came with a 305... which means right around 180 HP... which means mid 15 second quarters.
A decent racing 454 is gonna run you 9K for iron heads or closer to 11 if you want to go with aluminum... and that's just to buy it.
If you're planning on doing 8 second quarters and wheelies in an 86 MC you're gonna shell out close to 50K before you're done.

My God. Guess it time for another Ricer Then.
I have a 5-Speed 94' Honda Accord Vtec with DC Headers, Neuspeed Strutbars, Iceman Intake, Focus Touring Exhaust. Lowered 1.5" 18" Focal F4 Alloy Rims. Combat Bodykit with cracks all in it. Its about to die 143,000 miles on its way out. Reverse went out a long time ago. Tired of pushing it outta parking spaces.

I done got pulled outta the window and tased,
Holey Crapoley! What city do you live in? Even if you live in Belle Glade or Pahokee I can't see that happening for no reason...
...okay, maybe in Belle Glade...
You mentioned that you live in a hick town but I am just north of South Florida and we have a ton of tuner clubs down here, join one and I am sure you can make a friend who would want to sell ya something.
If you want to go the muscle route you can go hang out at Moroso, make friends, and hope someone is unloading something cheap.

Why would anyone under 55 move to St. Pete willingly?
It's all old people, any sort of culture they had dried up long ago and the whole Tampa/St Pete area is in the top 20 for most dangerous crime cities in America.

So much for honda quality. My '91 ford taurus was pushing 170k when I got rid of it. Looked _almost_ brand new inside and out and ran like a charm. I was just getting tired of driving the thing...

Ricers are fun to drive (sometimes) but I will stick with my 69 ss camaro. Nothing like getting your head slammed back in the seat and smelling burning tires all day

GT40: turbomagazine.com (http://www.turbomagazine.com/features/0103tur_sp_engineering_toyota_supra/)
805hp at the fly on stock internals. What would stop it from 600?
Some one mentioned a bolt on kit for the 350z to push it up to 700hp. YES that is possible, but not without a lot of $$$ put in that block prior. Otherwise, it will NOT hold up that kind of psi. I wouldn't run anymore than 8lbs max with a stock 350z w/turbo kit.
and Eclecticos... not to be a dick, but did you really think that MC was stock?

Just my take on it, but, if it propels your butt down the road faster, it's muscle.
I've seen some impressive GM turbo'd V6s man.... a couple in Grand Nationals (cool car!), but, mostly, in the GMC Typhoon (the other one was the Cyclone, right?).
I'm going to see if I can swing by a guy's house this weekend and snap a picture of his Typhoon... it has a HUGE turbo in there.
I mean, it isn't big, it's absurd, really.
You can triturate chickens if you throw them in there!
.........
I like where the market is going regarding the horsepower wars.
Here's my take on the history of it.... please feel free to change, modify and/or add your take on it.
-- Starting in the muscle car era (late 60s), we had small blocks
-- Then, we re-discovered displacement. No replacement. :D
-- Smogs and the greenies took control.
-- Mainly driven by Japanese imports, small displacement and power started to get ground.
-- 4bangers would get turbos... and humiliate big blocks. I would put this in the 1990s range.
-- the V8 guys kept trying to win via displacement, nitrous, fuels, sheer bulk, etc.
-- the rice-burners thought they were hot crap
-- the V8 guys decided to bolt on two hair blowers into one of their engines
-- the V8 guys liked the sound of 1,200BHP coming from a 5.7L V8.
-- the V8 guys liked the sound of 2,400BHP comind from a 9.4L V8
-- the rice-burners now cry all day cause "it ain't fair"
Man, my dream cars will always be a blend of big muscle, and technology.

There will always be faster which is why I started playing the devils advocate in the last thread where this convo started.
Bottom line though...
Rice burners:
-Very capable
-Larger market, more available parts/upgrades etc...
-cheaper parts(sometimes) and fuel wise(better gas mileage)
-Easier customizing (kinda like working with a life-sized level 1 model kit)
Muscle:
-Very Capable
-Hog Gas (but who cares? If you have one... you don't)
-Sometimes a pain to find parts
-Body work is a chore, especially if it's a unibody (my nova)
-Louder is sexier
I'm obsessed with cars, trucks, bikes, etc... so if it's worthy... it's worthy - I don't care where it came from.

I believe the typhoon and cyclone were the fastest production truck/SUV of their time. (I'd like to see that pic of the one near you
That blend makes the perfect smoothie :p

Glad to see you own one import! Shame the front got ruined though when Pontiac started selling the Holden Monaro.

It really depends...I love the muscle look, and the sound, but I also love cars such as Audi, and BMW
i like the monaro, i think its a GREAT car, great engine, shame that power comes from such a HUGE block, could get soooo much more out og that engine.

The LS2 is notorious for knocking... the pistons are undersized by .001
I had a bad experience with my '06, but my '05 was amazing.
Definitely the best handling car I've ever driven (but then again I'm only 18, so I haven't to around the block so much.)
