Earlier today, I ordered 2 more GB of RAM.. Free 1 day shipping. But since it's the weekend, it won't arrive until monday. $159 for the RAM. And I built my brother a new computer for him to use for audio production. He won't need his sound catd anymore because the equipment he has will process it all. So now I actually have a sound card rather than just using integrated audio.

Like your computer wasn't good enough.

I also got him a new 500GB hard drive. So I took his old 400GB one. I also have a 400GB one, so I could hook them up via RAID. Yay!

if you're running windows xp or vista 4 Gb will not make a difference at all from 2GB, it's just a waste of money. The virtual address space of processes and applications is still limited to 2 GB unless you run XP Server and modify the boot.ini file with a switch to allocate more memory. Now if you had added two 15k SCSI drives raid 0, thats an upgrade ;)

I have to go with Crimson on this one..

So you're saying even though I'm running 64 bit Vista Ultimate, 2 more GB of RAM won't help for anything like rendering a scene in 3DS Max?

With Vista ultimate you can install 128GB ram. that does not necessarily mean that your apps will be able to use that much, unless they are 64 bit versions. Rendering is all about CPU power anyway.

But it also needs the RAM to hold all of the information for when I'm working on the scene. And I do other stuffs too!

(semi)off topic, but I would crazy backflip off a poodle if I had 128 GB ram

According to Microsoft, it actually supports 128+ GB

And about 32 bit applications only using 2GB, I say that's good. Let one proram use up 2GB while Windows and the rest of the programs I'm using use up the other 2GB.

Good luck with the 500gb Ive had one about as long as they have been out and I still have like 80% free space

It looks solid on paper, but this is Micro$oft we're talking about here...

+rep for the upgrade!

I was going to ask why Raid 0, but I think the answer lies in the question. Faster HD seek times, but personally, I would be sweating bullets just waiting for a drive to go belly up.

Ultimately, it's a matter of choice. My next multi-purpose system shall be RAID 5, just for peace of mind.
