hay guys i was wondering if you could help me out.
im creating a home server, its not the best but any way im using a old mobo i found in my room for it.
the problem is what im having is when i put my maxtor diamondmax plus 9 160gb ATA/ 133 HDD with the mobo Gigabyte 7ZXE
If i set the jumper on the hard drive to master the mobo wont see it, but i put the jumper on cap limit then it works fine
Is there a way to get this hard drive working with the motherboard what im completly missing.. or is the cap limit the only way to go?
thank you for your input it would be most apprecaited :)

i have no clue and this is purely a guess but try removing it all together (the bridge)
another thought
is it the first thing plugged in and plugged into the right ide slot? i messed around with a old computer and plugged in the hdd into slot 2 and it didn't work. then i went to slot 1 and it worked.

Cap limit means that it's telling the BIOS that the drive is smaller than it really is. See if there's a BIOS update for that board, otherwise you may be out of luck.
There are other possibilities, like using a different IDE controller card (pci) or even seeing if the hdd manufacturer offers a software fix to trick the board into accepting it.. but the bios update would be the best way IMHO.

Thank you all for feed back. well i found the manual online and it shows that the red ide slot on the mobo is for the hdd. i know the cable work because they have came out of another rig.
the hd works and all when the cap is on. i thinkit restricts it to 40 or 30 gb?
i just find that a pure wait of space. hopfully tomorrow i can get a 80gb out of a computer or caddy and give that a try..
also what might help you is when i have tryed to install linux it would reject the install i think the error was on hdb:.. isent that the first hard drive?

You might have to go into the bios and manually set the cylinders and heads for the drive. The mobo might also have an auto detect.
