Well a few days ago I hurt my back pretty badly. I ended up on the floor in extreme pain, unable to breath and speak do to it. My father had to lift me off of the floor and put me on the couch and thats were I stayed, cringing in pain, for a few hours. I was then able to move around enough to get upstairs in bed, with help from my father of course.

The point of this is, I am still in a lot of pain and really stiff. I was wondering if anyone had some advice for me, stretches and such, so i can get back to modding:rolleyes: . Im getting tired of laying around all day.

P.S. Im not trying to fill this board with spam but I could use any advice, expect going to the doctors again  .

Hatha yoga.
Get a book that goes through the basic asanas, or streches. It will help you out.

Oh, and go to a doctor, get your back x-rayed, etc etc.
Nothing replaces professional medical advice or treatment.

It still doesn't hurt to ask advice from people. If this site were only for modding, period, then it would get quite boring and who would want to stick around? That and the Chatterbox is for OT chat, and medical stuff is OT. Hell, at least it's not another free coffee thread or any of that ****.

ROFLcopter. :D

I'll mod my case (eventually). I just need some spray paint and a weekend with nothing to do, and I'm set.

As far as I am concerned it does not matter to be fair it is'nt a free coffee thread but still it is not agreeing with what crimson said.

Alright, fair enough, it's his place  , so what he says goes, okay... if it were my forum I wouldn't want certain things on here either.

Thanx guys. As far as Im concerned this is directly related to modding. The sooner i get better, the sooner I can get some modding done. Oh well sorry I asked.

I assume you had a CT-scan when you first got injured? You need to rule out a herniated disk.

Ive been to the doctor before and they always tell me the same thing. They tell me its a pulled muscle and I just need to rest. I say B.S. I now what a pulled muscle feels like, this is more like a pinched nerve. As far as tests are concerned they never show anything and I don't want to go wast $2000 and them tell me the same thing. Im only 20 years old, they say Im to young to have back problems, idiots. I probably do have a messed up disc, may be out of alignment, sense this is the third time this year ive hurt my back. This time though, it sent me to the floor and i should have passed out from the pain. It honestly felt like someone had set my back on fire and then jabbed a knife in me. I WANT TI GET OUT OF BED, ive been here 3 days.

EDIT- I probably couldnt get out of bed to go to the doctors.

Dude, that sucks... hope you somehow "get better" soon. The most intense pain I've had is from the cyst in my wrist (not from what you guys may think) from falling forward and stupidly using my hands to break the fall... good luck dude.

The pain you describe makes me very suspicious of disk protrusion against a spinal nerve. Pulled muscle is possible too though, in either case rest and ibubrofen is what you need for relief. But I would want to see a CT or MRI myself.

nah, ibuprofen is too weak for this situation from the sound of it. ibuprofen is like a children's strength anti inflammatory drug. theres much better stuff out there... trick is you HAVE to get to a doctor to get a prescription. theres always a catch.

my mom threw her back out about a year ago now. shes still feeling the consequences. its resulted in a pinched nerve, and im sure this will eventually lead to surgery. she tried to go back to doing yoga when she was feeling better... that just made things worse. stretching to a certain extent isnt a bad idea... but yoga or anything more extreme than a warm-up style stretch is going to make things worse. the back is a very finicky area, and back injuries are slow to recover and sometimes dont recover properly at all.

thats a problem then. in fact problem is probably an understatement. you shouldnt be doing that sort of thing when you're 20. you definitely shouldnt do it to yourself 3 times in one year. firstly you want to talk to a doctor about this, and then perhaps even a chiropractor. after that... you may want to stop doing whatever you did to hurt yourself. sometimes thats easy to do... sometimes it isnt... because sometimes its just a matter of bending over the wrong way. one of my dads friends threw his back out picking up a stir stick.

i think in this case... get out of bed and get to the doctor. if theres that much pain, it needs to be looked at. hell, go to the hospital emergency room. at least they'll probably assess you pretty quickly if you say "lots of pain in my back!!!" loud enough. besides... hospitals have specialists on staff, which is much better than a family doctor. they'll set you up with some good drugs too in all likelihood.

one thing ill suggest for post-recovery exercises is squats and maybe dead lifts. my mom is now doing that sort of thing to build up strength in her back muscles. it works like a hot damn. i ALWAYS feel it in my lower back when doing squats. they're really effective. dead lifts would be something to do later on after you've been doing squats for a while because it puts more stress on your back. you definitely want to start out with minimal weight and SLOWLY work your way up. my backs perfectly alright, and it took me about a year to be able to squat 300, so you could expect to be under 75 (which is usually the bar plus maybe 30 pounds of weights). of course, you wouldnt be shooting for weight, you're looking to develop those muscles so you dont hurt yourself again.

all in all.... it sucks and i know what you're going through, but you HAVE to do something more than lay around if it hurts that much. even if you have to get your dad to carry you to the car, lay you on the back seat and drive you to the hospital.

<EDIT> i spent so long typing you even had a chance to say you're able to walk. now theres no excuse not to do something about it. if you can move, get going. dont wait.

You're right Slug, I'm sure I have no idea what I'm talking about. I also hate how there is always a catch when you are trying to self-medicate and some idiot doctor is always standing in the way.

Thanx Slug Toy for the suggestions. All I did was bend over to pick up a bottle of soda I had dropped. As I bent down the pain hit, so i hit the floor. I hope it is treatable, when I hurt my back its always in the same area. Oh well, life sucks and $H!T happens. I guess Im going back to the doctor.

Thanks again much appreciated.

P.S. Im going to lock the thread so I dont piss off the admins, but I appreciate the help.
