Would the 256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 , or 512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600 be compatible with DX10 and next-gen gaming?

Are these good bets for future gaming or should i wait for later technology to run games for a long period of time before upgrading?

Also is 150$ worth upgrading from 256 to 512?

Welcome kaka!

To answer you question, no, they aren't compatible with DX10, though they're fine for _today's_ gaming. Currently, the only DX10 compatible cards are the 8800 series. And unless you're going to be running very high resolutions when you game, the 256Mb card will be fine.

Games that support it some that will require it.

Actually, the HD2900XT has already had some actually physical in the computer reviews, although it isn't available for purchase just yet. So the cards do exist in this physical realm, final production run, too. 8)

..but after reading the initial reviews and benchmarks, the 8800's destroy the 2900xt. ATI is falling behind....

I didn't say it was better or should be chosen, I was just pointing out that the 8800 series isn't the only DX10 choice now.

My bad. :)

Agreed, not the only choice.. and I'm sure ATI will pick up on that pretty fast.

If i'm planning on playing DX10 games (Shadowrun in particular) and HP only offers NVIDIA 7600 on its laptops, what should i do?

Should i buy and then upgrade, or what?

That list posted, if you can't run DX10 you can't play em? Ouch..

so just get a desktop, why would you want to game on a laptop anyway.

Ah, my bad, it's the 8*** series. 8600 is DX10 compatible. But like others have said, unless you need serious gaming on the go, you'll get way more performance on a desktop. And you can't really upgrade a laptop. Or I've never heard of it at least.
