View Full Version : Loads o' new bits
Just wanted to share my joys (and sorrows).
Finally managed to cop hold of my new bits  , and have ditched the old crap.
Having struggled on with an AMD K-6 500Mhz, old Daewoo MoBo and a lofty 128Mb RAM (and seriously kind DaveWs freebie Gfx card), I've finally, after months of faffing about, got my new bits.
I got me my new Msi MoBo, Celeron D 2.66Ghz cpu and a Gb of RAM.
The misery bit is that the super-duper turbine cooler I got from YoyoTech appears to have a manufacturing fault in one of the brass standoffs, and the screw won't bite the internal thread
So I stuck on the stock one to get it running. Apart from the cooler, I is well chuffed (I can watch youtube vids, and play linerider at more than 3fps) . Just need a sensible HDD (mines a whole 8Gb at the mo) and I'll be laffin.
Anyone out there struggling on with outdated stuff, get your wallet out, it's more than worth it.
Just felt the need to share.

You know, if you have a usb interfaceable (word?) camera, you can just plug it in without the software. XP at least has a transfer wizard for scanners and cameras, haven't tried the scanner part, but the camera one works great. And it doesn't slow down my computer like Kodak's crap did.
Sorry for the hijack. :)
+rep for a new machine as well!
Thanks for the responses!
I'll get them pics up when I finds my camera... just moved house as well.. not helping my organisation...
Just spent some time fiddling...
Went from 2.6Ghz to....

Woo Hoo! 3.4Ghz from a £20 Processor.
That'll do.
I was going for 4Ghz, but over 3.4 it wouldn't boot :(
Thread... I command thee to rise from the dead!
Now It won't boot at 3.4 neither :(
Still, sitting at a rock steady 3Ghz... and out performing my muckas £600 dell system too.... hehehe....
A quick and totally pants photo opportunity...

Sorry, I know it's bad, but it gives an idea of the size of the cooler... it's hooooge (and has blue LEDs!).
This is a temporary case - hence why the wires are all over the place, I don't want to go shortening them and find they're too short in the new case...
Notice the new HDD? A whole 80Gb! w00t! And SATA too!
Next on the list is a SATA DVD R-W to get rid of the last big fat IDE cable.
And how hot is too hot?
While running 5 instances of Super Pi to 4 Million, SpeedFan said the CPU maxxed out at 39 Degrees C ... is this too much?
Looking at the graph now.... it looks like it was maxxing out Speedfan... does it not measure above 39 Degrees?
I don't want to break it.... :(

if thats the right temp that seems to be good. how hot (to touch) are your north/south bridge? i'm guessing there is a built in video card. i got a sata for the same reason, also its a slite faster. its not enough to make a difference.

Wow Drew's from the UK never knew that :o lol
I'd say with an overclock going get a fan on the northbridge, even better a new NB cooler.
Hahaha....
You're in Peterborough and don't know where Pembrokeshire is?
I moved from Peterborough to Pembrokeshire.
What a craphole Pete-bog-horror is (Welland anyway... some of it's nice...can't remember where exactly though....).

Ha none of it's nice anymore.
It has become the home of foreigners, druggys and chavs.
Some sick stuff that happens in some places.
I know where Pembrokeshire is, i just never looked at your location before :p
