You guys just watch, five months is going to pass and he won't say a thing about what he's doing. Then when he is finally done, he'll be all like. TAH DAH! It's a side panel! lol
Well I can't make any real guesses just yet, but we'll see what I can come up with after a few more posts. With more pictures, this could be kind of fun. But I think it would be better to post a bunch of progress all at once instead of a little tiny bit every other day. ^_^
well...i actually have it 99% done...and im starting on the second part of this tomorrow...
just tryin to build up your anticipation some :)

i JUST had the title changed to that....it used to say my newest project

05-30-2007, 04:13 PM
omg cool! That is WAY better than a side panel! lol :p
Is this your first time making something like this or do you have some kind of experience? Looking at how good it looks, I would say you know what your doing. lol
I wonder if it would help dissipate heat if you were to place some heatsinks onto your block?
i actually work in a machine shop...i have about 2 years machining experience...
im still needing to get a spare mobo to setup for testing my blocks so i can see how they do as far as cooling

thank you,
i plan on making the top plate tomorrow at work in my spare time....i may also try to write a program to make some neat stuff i thought of today
finished writing my program today, gonna try to run it tuesday...hopefully

06-04-2007, 09:43 PM
Can't wait to see it! Is it Tuesday yet?? :(
in 14 minutes it will be :)
tomorrow should be a good day...i have our bigger mill all freed up...so i will set up my part to run tomorrow...and i should have a final product to show you all tomorrow evening :)
havin a lil trouble with my program....got some tweaking to do...pics later
Computer-Geek
06-05-2007, 04:46 PM
alright get those bugs worked out :D
ive got the base program 90% worked out....just one more thing to fix then i will have good products to put out
update time!
ok well after about 4 bad parts...i finally got to making them to what i think is satisfactory
after 3 hours of writing a program and 2 of testing and tweaking it i give you....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/06-05-07_1504.jpg
the first almost completed block!...this was the first i made... i had the distance for the top holes a bit too far so i got those into the correct placement
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/06-05-07_1540.jpg
the second problem i ran into...whenever it got close to finally cutting out the part...along the last edge i would get bad chatter from the part being pulled to the endmill causing this rough surface...so to fix that i raised the depth of cut a bit and then hit it with a hammer because there was about 10 thousandsth of material left
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/06-05-07_1638.jpg
im tappin that hole :P
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/06-05-07_1835.jpg
first four blocks ive made to this point...ill probably make 10 more tomorrow just for setup and trial and error :)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/06-05-07_1836.jpg
and a bit closer up
i should be gettin a camera in a couple weeks hopefully...so no more cell phone pics 8)

Shiny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <off topic> and how much do those mini motors cost to make?? </off topic>
those motors were free when we built them.. they were all air powered
i had a friend that made a 3 cylinder with a chassis that you could stand on and it would push you around
recently ive been considering new designs, ones that will be better at heat transfer... i think ill start working up programs for them :)

Looks great but copper would have been a better solution for a waterblock!
yeah...im pricing some copper so i know how much i gotta save for it
whenever i finish my next design, ill test the program with aluminum, but make the final parts with copper
edit:
BAH $135 for a 10 ft bar of 1/8x3 inch copper
hehe...update in minutes....i know you guys will like :D
ok here we go
this is my big surprise

sooo many radius's...erm...radi?
radii
You were pretty close though! :p
man, 816 freakin lines of code? that is nucking futz! How long did it take you to create that, erm, program? or... did you just... enter the code...? hmm. How DOES that work anyway? lol
lol can you imagine how many lines of code there would be on a side panel window? or would it be the same... ? dangit. I'm going to bed. lol
it was more of make a model for it, give it depths and tool sizes and such...then out put the code then having to read every line to make sure it looked correct....thats the part that sucks
as far as how it works...it uses what is called g-code, where all the functions and movements and everything are controlled by it, using g(then number) to tell it what to do
as far as a window is concerned, depending on how complex your design is... that will determine what is all involved in making it :)

UPDATE TIME!
lets start here...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/IMAG0007.jpg
my boss brought me a piece of heatsink from his other job.....got any ideas on a use for it :)

closer to see the mirror finish :D
i just realized...i dont have any shots of the top sidell get that tonight when i get home
comments?
Zephik
06-21-2007, 09:38 PM
Did the mirror finish come that way or did you do that? Looks really good either way! btw, how thick is it?
Hmm, haven't a clue for what to do with the heatsink. It looks pretty big though, maybe slap it on your hard drive? lol idk. I'm sure you'll think of something. ^_^
Waiting for those next set of pictures! This is such a cool project, I'm loving it.
for the mirror finish, after i pulled it outta the machine i hit it with some awesome polish we got from a polishing company and a polishing cloth...i get it to near mirror in the machine...the polish just helps remove the tiny lines from cutting
its a lil less than 1/4 inch thick...then there will be about another 1/4 inch on top for the cap of it so overall it will be about 1/2 inch thick
im working on the design for the cap now :)
the heatsink is like a foot square so i may try an hdd cooler or somethin..well see!
BTW my dad bought a new digital camera...so ill have some better pics of everything soon
Mitternacht
06-21-2007, 10:09 PM
That heatsink in the 1st pic looks like a GPU heatsink out of an Xbox 360.

put the heat sink on your PSU
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/blockmount.jpg
this is what i was thinkin about for my design for the top of it...this one is LGA775
what do you guys think?
im working on designing a universal top, along with one that is specific for each processor
Zephik
06-22-2007, 07:59 PM
Will the top piece be acrylic or aluminum? or something else perhaps? Might be cool to have an aluminum top with a window in the center. Then of course, you could etch whatever you want into that window. Like a TBCS logo. Well, you could do that with acrylic too, just without the window part.
I like the way that LGA775 top looks. Clean and simple, no gimmicks.
Your turning out to be a pretty good waterblock craftsman. ;)
top piece is gonna be aluminum over a piece of acrylic....i may try to have a piece today

man these get better and better. i would stick with specific proc blocks instead of a uni one. looks better with the proper number of holes.
+rep for the better blocks and pics.. haha
i will have it made so that you can either get a proc specific or a uni block, because some people may like universal design for ease of changing over systems :)

i would have the update for you now...but in the midst of changin computer desks my dad misplaced my base....so once i get it straightened in here a bit more i should find it then i will update
ok, update time!
this top isnt quite the quality it will be in the end...i was kinda rushing it and didnt get a good finish on it but its still looking good!

nice beautiful finish on the bottom of the block....the rest of the top will look like that in the end
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/IMG_0023.jpg
to show you the thickness...only 1/2 inch thick
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v697/b4i7/waterlog/IMG_0025.jpg
and inside of a case...not mounted though..
that is part of the reason i will make separate ones, for each type of CPU, because my other athlon mobo cant hold the block because of caps :)
thanks for attention, comments?

Is it just me or are you missing a hole? or is that the way its supposed to be?
The block looks pretty good, needs a little spit and shine to polish it up a bit, but looks good.
Are you planning on doing anything else to that block? Seems a little plain, like it needs something to give it that extra visual factor.
heh.... yes there is a hole missing...i was russhin to make it.. and deleted a lin of code
i rushed to face it off and it left a bad finish...so when i redo it it will be better
as far as adding to it...youll see :)
