I was thinking of doing something similar. Well it has nothing to do with the northbridge but I was thinking of making it out of plexi.

I was going keep the bottom heatsink to the crappy CPU fan I have on the CPU and build something like what you have done leading out of the case. I have an a great CPU fan with no brackets and it moves a lot of air. I was going to use that fan to take the air off of the heatsink.

The fan without brackets is a Cooler Master Jet 4 CPU Cooler (http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=ICB-V83&other_title=+ICB-V83+JET%204)

I also thought of making my own brackets for the fan and just use that fan for my CPU but I am not sure how tight the brackets would have to be and I don't want to damage the CPU.

Whoa! Thats a Kewl looking CPU Cooler never seen that one.

Just make sure you leave room for the hot air to escape.
As far as the brackets go. .Be careful. A friend of mine attached a CPU Cooler with one corner post missing and he had the heat dissipation set to spread spectrum from center of cpu . .and He burnt his Processor Up. I told him.

When its a questionable mounting bracket I use a torque screwdriver, just to be on the safe side.

The fan that is on the CPU right now is a cheap 40mm. The case that I would be modding is just a whatever machine so nothing extreme has to be done. But it is my test OCing computer so I want to give myself some room to work with. I am just not sure if building an exhast system using plexi glass would be any better than the stock fan.

Just an out there idea but lets say in the middle of the exhast pipe I put a 80mm fan to help more with the air flow and then widened the exhast pipe at the end to fit a 120mm fan?

Wait, wait.. I know the answer... Try it and find out!

Edit **Nevermind, just thought since the fans are in a sealed tube that there is gonna be wacky airflow going on between the fans**
