Hello all,

i'm new to site and fresh off the boat when it comes to modding computers. first off, i wanted to say that this is a wonderful site and great job to all you guys who have made some awesome computers.

been reading all post and thought maybe i could build a cool computer and maybe i could get help along the way.

my friend has my camera, so i'll take pictures tomorrow when he gets back...

well here's my simple first mod i'm gonna do, gonna call it "Heineken" LOL :D :

case:

Ultra Micro Fly
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v340/Braddah_Kai/ULT33115_LR_2a-1.jpg
- gonna paint case green, front panel white

- make a window on the top of case and try and etch (have no idea how but really wanna try) heineken logo :D something like this

Questions:

not sure what method i should use for window atm. i've seen people use bolts and nuts, glued on, etc. to me i like the panels with the rubber or metal trims. is that harder to do? it looks really clean looking and nice

well wish me luck :D

Rubber and metal looking trim are cheap and easy to do.

Just put a little bit of glue in it (don't have with the rubber), and slot it on.

Heineken styled case, nice:twisted:

Nice idea with the heineken logo. Will you light it in green like the picture is? Looks really nice.

Its just about etching.

yes i wanna install lights inside the case to bring out the etch.

hopefully case comes in tomorrow so i can start stripping paint off. found a metalic green paint that i'm gonna use.

i was reading more into the micro fly case and it said that the front panel is plastic. do i strip the paint the same what as the side panels or can i just primer over? thanks

You could sand it, spray primer for platic, and use the regular paint you have, or you could just get some paint for plastics such as Krylon Fusion. That, you just spray and you're done.

And welcome to the boards!

Just to echo what maleficus has said, Krylon Fusion is a type of paint specifically for plastic, it basically stains by sinking into the plastic, haven't used it myself though it certainly seems worthwhile in your case (haha, geddit?)

case came in today, gonna start sanding and painting this weekend. don't got my acrylic yet so i think i'll just sand all panels and maybe paint one panel to practice. i'll take pictures and update how it comes out. wish me luck ;)

oh one more question about windows, what size acrylic does everyone use for windows? i just picked up 1/8" but seems kinda skinny for a window. should i get 1/4" instead? well gonna practice etching with the 1/8" wish me luck

1/8" is fine. I have an 1/8" window on my case, it works pretty good. You can get 1/4", but you don't need to unless you're really concerned.
