View Full Version : Deathstar
So I offered to build a case for a friend of mine. He came up with the idea to make the case a replica of the Deathstar. I need some idea input from you guys. It seems like it may be a challenge, as it would be all round. I suppose it was have to have a cube as a core so all the parts could fit in nicely. I also wonder how I would do the I/O panel. Any ideas?

Is it the first or second Deathstar?
I agree the square core would be the easiest way to arrange the parts. For the ports, there are two ways I could see it done:
1) You could have a door, with a hole in the edge which the cables are routed through.
2) You could buy some male to female extension cables and have the ends on the edge of the outer part of the case. If that makes sense. If you painted them, it would fit nicely I think.
Just some thoughts

I have two suggestions. Since it is would it will need some external method of support most likely. So you can either hang the case or make a stand (like models use). If you hang it from something the pc cables can go up with the suspension cables. With a stand they can leave that way. Either way you could have a section on the back, probably opposite the laser dish, that opens up to reveal the rear panel and you could then route the cables accordingly.
The other suggestion, make the death star while under construction, complete with surrounding scafolding. Then the I/O panel should be relatively easy to blend in and it would be more original.
For the planet-destroying laser, you could use the appropriate color leds around the focusing dish and put an actual laser in the center. Hope that helps and good luck.

This is an incredible idea. maybe you could stealth the drives in the trench and you could use the super laser as a power button.
The laser as the powerbutton would work great. I was thinking of maybe having it split through the middle so the top could be lighted up to open it or something. But that would create issues wth where to put things. But the drives n the trench could work.

A Death Star would be cool.
On a side note, should this have been how it should have gone in the movie?
