Hey guys...

I'm writing this thread, out of 99% frustration. :( :( :(
Can somebody suggest an program for dumping mp3s into the iPod?

I bought an iPod nano about 1 month ago.
I know I'm not touching iTunes with a 300 foot pole stick.
Out. Of. The. Question.

So, I google "iTunes alternative" and, Songbird came up.
Well, I used it up until today, just when I realized they don't have it nailed down.

It's moronic.
I dump 1GB of files into the iPod, and Songbird tells me it's 100% done synchronizing about 7 seconds later.

Erm, ... 1GB... 7 seconds.
Ok... what... connection from the future is Songbird and my iPod using?
God only knows.
((obviously, I disconnect the iPod, and, obviously, the 1GB of music isn't there))

So, without further addo, I wished Songbird the very best, and deleted its digital exitance from my machine. 8)

Next!

So, I just tried YamiPod.
Downloaded...
Small file.... 2 points! :)
Simple looking screenshots... 3 points! :)
Easy installation.... 2 points! :D
"Strong Suggestion to install QuickTime"... minus 10 points! :dead:

No quickTime. Not now. Not ever. Not in my computer.
((same thing goes to Acrobat))
((same thing goes to Messenger))

So, I'm all happy and dandy cause YamiPod seems simple enough...
Aha... sure...

I'm taking a breather, cause this is just stupid.
I mean, I'm like spending 5 minutes looking WHAT THE HECK to do in a screen of the program, when I realize a VERY SMALL plus-sign that I had to click.
It measured like, 4 pixels by 4 pixels... really.

Who the heck does this stupid things?
He ehh ee... sorry. Bad question.
Don't answer that.

I'm frustrated.
I've been orginizing my life with FOLDERS and FILES since the 1990s... why the heck do **I** have to bend over *now* and start doing it THEIR way!??!

NO!
I don't want to use "Albums" and "Artists".

I have everything in my folders, neatly organized.
Why the heck can't I just drag-and-drop files into the iPod?!

This is dumb.
I'm out.
I'm going for a short drive.
Probably to the beach.
iPod-less, for sure.

Looking for suggestions from my beloved fellow geeks. :)

Thanks guys... and sorry for all the ramblings.

Best,

-AJ

EDIT:::
MY GOSH!!!

Just get iTunes. It's honestly not that bad. Like... seriously. Just because we're nerds doesn't mean we can't use iTunes. In fact, its the opposite - we nerds should be able to fix any problems that may arise. And for me, I've had virtually none.

LoL "like... seriously". You just reminded me of a school girl when you said that. :p jk jk

I actually agree with Tybrenis. I had a 30GB iPod Video and I used iTunes. It's actually very simple once you learn how to use it. It's also pretty handy, you can watch podcasts in iTunes if you don't have a video. Such as Diggnation. VERY kick ass show btw.

I have the easiest MP3 player ever. Creative Labs Muvo. It appears as a thumb drive when plugged into the computer. I just pick the music I want to listen to and copy it to the drive. Only issue is it doesn't find music past one level of subfolder, which doesn't bother me any. Creative MP3 players (http://creative.com/products/welcome.asp?category=213)

I don't use it much now though. I used it when I rode the bus, but now I have a car. I also have a Motorola SLVR, which uses iTunes. I hate that software.

There is an iPod linux, but you would have to downgrade your firmware to 1.1. Also, you may consider RockBox, which is one of the best-sounding, skinnable firmwares for the iPod.

Talk about moaning damn!

I don't own an iPod but guess what iTunes has always been my number 1 music player! it most likley always will be, i've tried near enough all the others but iTunes is simple and works! I Hate WMP though, never touch it.

You have some odd (and if I may say so, stupid) biases...

-There's nothing wrong with iTunes, it takes up less space when minimized than WMP too...
-No Quiktime?! What format are most of your video files in? Besides, Quiktime files scale much better when stretched.
-Messenger works great; I don't seen anything wrong with it...

Do you need a video to figure out how iTunes works or something? I don't even have an iPod and I prefer iTunes over WMP or Realplayer...

Wow, you're almost as bad as this anti-microsoft kid in school. And the fact that he uses Windows XP and won't use Linux...it's just insane...

I'm ashamed of you AJ. :p j/k

:D
I love you too!

What's... wrong... with ... iTunes...
Basically: Apple.

I don't like Apple, and the brief instance I worked with iTunes on a friend's computer, it took over.
That same friend says now that the newest iTunes are more flexible and not so stringent.... but, no worries.

I guess you could call it a "moral" case.
What's the default decoding format for iTunes?
How many people change it to mp3?
Ok.

RE: WinAmp
I'm sorry, but WinAmp was here in The Land Before Time.
I don't care.
WinAmp is here to stay.
For ever.
:)
Best. Player. Ever.

RE: QuickTime
Nope.
No quickTime.
I didn't realize it was the industry standard.
I don't do porn that much. :p
I don't deal with videos... um... nope.

Messenger's problem...
Also "moral".

Has anybody recently installed Adobe Acrobat 5.0?
It's funny, the simple and quick installation it is.
In fact, at the very end, it tells you "Thank you for choosing Adobe Acrobat!".
Nowadays?
Pfff... they take over your computer with Adobe Mouse Controller that couples with the Adobe Super Screen Resolution Speaker Equalizer. Now, you can also use the Adobe Monitor Color Adjustment Gama Setup Agent, and, obviously, for all these programs, you should run the Adobe Never Minimize or UnInstall System Tray Monitoring Program.

Again, it's nitpicks on my part.
No Apple.
No Messenger.
No Adobe.
No Macromedia.
Heck, no Flash!!!
(( I swear!! NO FLASH! I love when I see a blank screen and it says "Plug-in Content"))

....

I use Media monkey, but it need some plugins... And dont remember where I found them  Most of the time Mediamonkey use the winamps plugin, maybe that's where I found it

Hmm... MediaMonkey...
Downloading as we speak...
Thank YOU!

Adapt to survive my friend, adapt to survive.

...go buy a Zune.
ROFLMAO

Well, honestly, I'd buy it.
But I liked the very small form factor of the nano.
I ain't dumping my music collection in it... my iPod is 100% for audio/eBooks... so, 2 GB is enough for now (although, 4 or 8 would be great!).

i say foock it and sell the darn thing !

No GT... I'm not going to sell it and buy a Nitrous bottle...
Nooo... don't make me think about it... noooo....

Well, thanks a lot for the help guys!

Bah, it's all a matter of personal opinion and choice. I don't use Apple products because I'm happy with what I have. I use WMP because I know the program. I use Windows because I can play my games on it, and I'm familiar with it. I use whatever mp3 player I happen to have, such as my PDA at the moment. I use instant messengers sometimes, but I'd rather not, I hate having conversations that way, hence the reason I'm on TS a lot.

I've found it's better to let people use what they have, and not discuss it too much, especially if they're stubborn fanboys (no offense). I may not stick to this all the time, but I try. I'm also willing to learn, if there's something else out there that works better than something I have, I'll take a look at it, usually. If what I have is good for now, I'll stick with that.

So, anyone gonna challenge that logic?

Just wait till the crappy iTunes software starts randomly corrupting files, skipping songs, losing sync and pestering you to update every time you take a piss. I hate it, but use it with a grudge.

AJ, if you hate Apple, Like I do, why did you stoop to buying an iPod in the first place?

I agree with chaksq--sell the iPod, get a Creative Media Player--they're cheaper (but not in quality, trust me!)

Also, they can sync with many different media programs, if you don't like their proprietary software--something Apple and Microsoft do not understand.

Like I said, give Creative a try.

Yeah, the ones with larger HD's are usually MUCH larger in dimensions because than other media players, because of the battery...But hey, they get like 4 more hours of play than an iPod, so....whaccha gonna do?

Amen. All Ipods are good for is being part of the 'in' crowd.

And I've never bought into that.

Their product is shoddily packed and built to break after your warranty ends.

That and those accessories they have that are marketed explicitly to iPoods, they're flat out freakin' expensive. As if you couldn't spend enough money on an mp3 player, lol. I prefer flash based portable storage anyway, screw a pocket sized hard drive, you drop it once and it breaks, you look at it, it breaks, lol.

I agree with meny when i say
"I will only have i-Tunes installed over my DEAD body"
my mate syncs his ipod with my pc, i use Winamp, its so simple.

Im not anti Apple, but i don't like i-Tunes or Quicktime, and for all them annoying files that need it, theres Quicktime Alternitive.

Im not anti microsoft, but i am about to install linux on my machine after using vista, i still feel that linux has everything i need without crap that i don't, and its faster, Windows can be useful at points, but i still feel linux is better, I just got to see if linux can talk to vista over the network and visa versa, I also got to find a free linux that can read and write NTFS,

Mainly coz i CBA to repartition my drives,

Anyway, back on topic, Creative make some nice drives, 2gb, small, Drag and drop.

For sync with ipod, use Winamp.

I just wish they'd have the Quicktime video format codec (or whatever it is) available for download without Quicktime and iTunes. That and Quicktime always starts up when Windows does, wasted RAM if you ask me. I just wish people would stop pressing **** we don't need with the little fragment we do. Everyone seems to want credit for everything they do, I'll give them credit, I have no problem with that, I just wish they'd sign their name at the end of the movie or in the pic, whatever/etc. That and I hate piracy, but nobody wants to spend so much on anything, companies need to lower the prices and say they're doing so because of piracy, to invite more people to get legitimate copies of stuff. Too bad there aren't more people with thinking similar to mine. But don't mimic me, I have a trademarked franchise to keep up.

Just kidding, lol. About the franchise. :D

I forget who makes them, but it can be used as either, they are flash drives, not hard drives, and they are the same size as a trad. thumb drive.

any mp3 player can be used as a thumbdrive/mp3 player as long as there is the mp3 player doesn't require software to copy songs. my creative zen micro has both types of setups. to transfer music you need the creative browser they give you (i don't like it but i don't mind it.). in the menu on the mp3 player there is a selection that lets you partition the hdd so it can be used as storage that you don't need any software to use. but if you put music on it the mp3 palyer won't play it.
