Hey friends, today would like share with you a family's revenue: :D

Modular PSU made at home!

I opened for psu and separated the cover:

I used the original cover to cut a new front for for psu:

I holed and I riveted the new front, keeping the old

Using a micro-rectifies, I did a cut to case the connector db25, and with the drill and a thick drill, I did 4 holes for the connectors Mic

I stretched the connector atx cables until the connector db25 and cut them letting a free time to weld them. (Hint: Use cables term-retractile or hot glue to isolate the cables after weld them)

I passed the cable atx inside cuting, I arrested with retractile term, (watch out to do not invert the cables order), weld them in the other connector db25

I repeated the operation, now with the cables molex

To improve the visual and the refrigeration, I changed for fan of psupor a colored, put a cover of acrylic and a second fan in the cover top, and I used lasergrill for the finishing.

Time expense:
06 hours
Money expense: (US$ 20 + PSU)

The Advantage of this modification in psu cables, is just that allows a better interior organization of the case, and consequently a better refrigeration, besides you have the option of only to connect the cables that is going to use, or it adapts them its way.

It is worth remind that it should pay attention in the order of the cables in the hour to welding them to do not occur any mistake, following this recommendation, there is not larger secrets.

Hugs,
Darth

Really nice

If you did'nt work so well, I'll give you +rep, but unfortunatly, I have to spread some around before...

nice job! i never thought about using a parallel connector for the 20 pin!

Great work! It looks awesome and it's functional. Just out of curiosity, isn't there a capacitor inside? If there is, how did you keep from electrocuting yourself?

My god, that's insane. You must have a pair that clank. I'm too afraid of electrocuting myself to attempt something like this!

Damn... a parallel... Never thought of that! I wanted to modulate my PSU for a while now, and couldn't think of how to do the main plug. I also did the 4-pin XLR, like you did.

Huh... I wouldn't have thought that a parallel port connector would have been able to carry the amount of current needed by a motherboard.

I'd be too scared of crossing wires to do something like that, anyway.

I don't understand why you guys are so worried about the capacitors? you are not going to get electrocuted. simply unplug the power supply and then hit the power button on your computer. it will dissapate the power in the capacitors. and Even if you do get a small shock out of them, they are not going to kill you.

I'm not exactly an electrical engineer. I didn't know how to dissipate the capacitor or if touching it would kill me. But now that I do know, I think I'll be modding my PSU on my next mod. Thanks for the information.

same idea i had for my next case ........ i never had the idea of the parallel port ,great thinking.

Nice Job!

Huh... I wouldn't have thought that a parallel port connector would have been able to carry the amount of current needed by a motherboard. That was my first thought too. But IIRC, most of the high current pins are multiplied up anyway, sharing the load.

Simply unplug the power supply and then hit the power button on your computer. it will dissapate the power in the capacitors. Not sure about that. Caps on the L.V. side will drain through the motherboard, but the big one, charged up with rectified mains, well that one might not... Likewise the mains filter caps.

and Even if you do get a small shock out of them, they are not going to kill you.Ever had a belt from a H.V. capacitor? Rarely fatal but they bloody hurt!!!

Great work Darth + Rep All your work is amazing.

Thanks guys by the approval words of my work! It is very good being accepted in a new community even when does not have the domain of the spoken language, you let me very happy!
Regarding the risks since modding, I tell that Casemod is fun, however always assuredly and responsibility, I have family to create, am married and have two daughters, because of this would not do a modification that could put my life or life of anybody in risk.

Nice work on the PSU
Hmm, did you run that through an online translator ? ;)
Sorry if my English is bad, but as already said, I am Brazilian, and in our Brazil's Language is the Portuguese, that owns grammatical totally different rules from English, but I am here making an effort me to can share my projects with all of you.

But I ask for help, in case there are mistakes, please correct for the correct way, because really there are words that do not own a translation. But at the moment I try to write in English, but "falo bem português, e Hablo Spanõl. ;)

Isnt it kinda pointless to make the atx 24 pin modular? i mean you always use it if the psu is connected to a comp.
Unless you made one connector with the 24pin on the end and another set up to join the required wires for a test psu.

Since when has modding been for the sole purpose of utility?

jbdnsn speaks the truth. We had this discussion a while back, here's (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1676) a link to it.
