Ok, so this is not a typical CASE mod, but since it entails building the pc into this i figured I would post it.
Yes, this is my first mod, so be kind.
What I am going for is an old horror movie style, life sized coffin.
The coffin will be either flat black or have a stone finish.
Dual 19" monitors will be mounted in the lid.
The pc itself will be encased in the bottom half of the coffin as will all wiring.
There will be a pull out keyboard/mouse drawer entered on the bottom of the coffin (centered between the monitors).
The lid will have a plexi-glass cross which shoots out red light when the coffin is closed.
The interior will have padded red silk, a red silk pillow, hidden air vents and fans, etc. You will see.
Things to go INSIDE coffin:

Coffin Style:

Beginning photos (BOTTOM OUTER SHELL DONE - NO MOLDINGS OR DETAILS WORK - so, yeah...a box):

It looks like the total cost will be around $100 for the entire build.
More to come!

Just when you think you've seen it all...someone comes along and decides to slap a PC in a coffin!
+rep man, PURE GENIUS!

Yeah, I saw that white coffin before.
But it looked too new to me.
I wanted an old Hammer Films, Universal Monsters style coffin.
Anyway, back to the shop. More to come!

Thats just a little too morbid for me.

Morbid?
Yeah, maybe. But I am a horror movie fan like you would not believe and an aspiring film maker so this will not only serve to fit the theme of my house and film collection but also test my skills for the props we need for the film that comes after this mod is done.
As for being buried in it, I tested it for size today, and with the tower mounted in the floor, I fit fine. So I guess.....ha ha ha....why not?
Ok, no pics today as I am tired as crap, but I will post more tomorrow.
What we did today was lay the pine flooring and cut a slot into the pine flooring down to the base floor (sub floor) to allow the pc to be sunken into the floor for more room and stablity. There is now a 3 inch pc tower sized slot for the computer to rest in.
Also, there will not be a door to gain access to the pc as I first planned.
We are going to mount the tower so the cd rom drives are flush with the face of the coffin allowing direct access through the side.
All you will see is the bay door which might get a wood panel cover for final looks.
The power button/reset button will be hidden as well.
The dual 19" widescreen monitors will still go in the head side of the lid with a subwoofer mounted under the pillow of the coffin and the pc speakers will be in the lid, and headrest.
As for the plexi-glass cross in the lid....well, no.
It has been done I see.
So now there will be a flat black cross mounted to the lid with a gap of a 16th of an inch between the cross and lid.
I will then mirror finish the bottom of the cross and run ultra bright led's through the lid up under the cross allowing a ultra red glow to shoot from under the floating cross.
The added air vents will have a dual grill design.
From the outside you will see a flat black mesh (almost invisible against the black coffin). When the vents are lit you will see symbols from religious books glowing through. (need to find BRIGHT lighting options).
We are also looking into mounting a dvd player and another 19" widescreen lcd tv in the side of the coffin to allow for television and movie watching, basically making this coffin a full blown entertainment system.
Finally, since you must all be tired of reading by now, the broadband modem will be monted internally with a standard black coax wall jack mounted to the oustide of the coffin to allow for easy hookup. All network cables will be internal.
The only exposed wires will be the main power cord (which will plug directly into the coffin rear like your pc case now and the coax cable.
HOWEVER, I will be mounting a ups and installing wireless as well for a fully wireless coffin option.
WHEW! I say 2 weeks until completion and still a budget of $100 (minus the extra lcd tv)...hopefully I can come up with that cheap or free on a trade somewhere.
I am trying to keep the budget at about $100 in case someone else wants to try this for themselves and thinks they cannot afford it.
Anyone with access to ULTRA BRIGHT LED's or ULTRA BRIGHT cold cathodes please let me know. All I can find are standard looking lighting and this needs to be BRIGHT BRIGHT whent he lis is closed and the cross glows and the air vents glow.
(plans might change here and there but now you have the basic idea)
Later guys!

in your first picture next to your pc is that vantec external enclosure?
this is gonna look pretty good, great idea. +rep

Yeah, it is an Vantec external enclosure holding my 350 gig hard drive.
My external drive will actually be mounted in the divider beteen the lid and foot sections where I can still unplug and take it with me when I go somewhere. The blue Vantec logo will be visible, but not the whole enclosure until you remove it on a little tray that will be installed. I might put the broadband modem and router in the same area so I can see network activity and the pretty flashing lights! HA HA.

Change of plans.
The dual monitors wills till be mounted in the lid. However, since this is a full sized coffin that would place them about 27 to 30" away from you while in use.
So, here is the change.
Monitors flush in lid for display or movie watching.
When you want to game or use the pc for something else the lid closes to 45 degrees and then the monitos flip down and become flush with the front of the coffin bringing them closer to you.
I pulled my shoulder today working, so expect a delay for about 2 days.
Later!

The original white coffin was a child-sized one, and creeped many people out. I saw it at an event once.
The project was called "You Can Take it With You".

This is rather creepy, and not an idea I am particularly fond of. However, I cannot stop from thinking of good ideas for it. So good luck and I hope it works out well for you.

Bad news, guys,
Someone stole the coffin.
Seriously. I had it sitting at the garage door to allow the paint and stain to dry and when I came back to grab up my tools and start fitting inner beams and drawer rails, it was gone.
So I guess we are back to square one. I have the lumber here and I am starting again.
I apologize to you all.
I will ge this done for you all to see. I feel like sh*it about this.
Back to work.
STAY DEAD!
and ps:
anyone in west virginia who sees someone riding around with a life sized black coffin with air vents and 120mm fans in the lid....SHOOT EM!

Well for my first post ever...lol.
After seeing all the stealth drive in here, and reading that you wanted to flush the CD drive into the side, what about making one of the handles slide out?

I DEMAND that you put a pop-up zombie bust in the coffin! Just get a 12 volt linear actuator, the kind used for automobile doors. They lift up to 150lbs. ;)

where at in West Virginia? I live in Kentucky so I'll keep an eye out for it if it heads my way. Then I'll tell you if I find it and you can come shoot them yourself! Next time you stain the new one you might want to chain it to something.

Weirton, WV.
it is obvious if anyone seriously sees it.
Look for the raised "floating" cross and the holes cut for the drives.
As for the pop up zombie....
ha ha ha
They did not steal that! That was in my bedroom. And BTW....how the hell did you know I was planning that!!??
And for the handles that slide out.....very clever.
Maybe we shall see about that on the new design.
Also the new coffin will look like this only in black with the trademark floating cross and led's. Everything else is the same.

I think someone is in denial. You don't like the idea but you can't stop from helping out with ideas? Just admit it, somewhere deep down inside of you there's a part of you that's sick and demented like the rest of us. Embrace it and make it your own like Ozena-X2 has.

I like the idea. Not one you see much of. Sorry to hear about the stolen coffin (you know, I never thought I would ever have to say that) but once things get sorted out this should be awesome.
