We are getting some pretty wild weather in Australia huge 40knot gusts of wind and lots of rain. Its affecting shipping of the coast as well with one ship coming up on the beach near where Bucko lives in Newcastle and a couple of others are desperately trying to get further off shore.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200706/s1946306.htm
Edit: There has also been flooding and cars getting swept of roads in country side.

scary stuff. they probably get weather like this all the time over in the uk though. we're just a bunch of southern hemisphere wusses, who freeze whenever it gets below 15 degrees. on the other hand, they all faint from the heat when it gets over 20, so we're even.
It must be really inconvenient to replace ferries with buses. Instead of a short 20 minute ferry ride home, you get a 2 hour bus ride.

Got pretty weird here today too in WY. The temps been about 75-80 degrees nice weather right. All of a sudden today temp drops and we actually got snow. Nothing stuck around but weird. Even now at 3 in the morning its cold enough to wear a blanket. (Don't feel like getting up to turn the furnace back over to heat from AC.)

Small update 11 people are missing. A hole opened on a highway 30m across 10m deep and swallowed a car with a family in it. Also Bucko's town Newcastle is flooded.
Thankfully all other ships are safe. The one up the beach isn't leaking oil thankfully.
Parts of Sydney has lost power. I have power for the moment.

Al Gore knows...
Weather here has been crazy too... Calgary and Edmonton both got severe storms this week. Calgary is currently just over $10 million to cleanup, and I havent heard an estimate from Edmonton, though just outside of Edmonton (Stony Plain) was a tornado the other day also.
Mother earth is pissed off...

ICE AGE!!!!! Run for your lives!
ROFL, just kidding. But there may be one coming... like my physics teacher said, we need a bigass volcano to throw some ash into the air, not like Mt. St. Helens, but like Krakatoa. Not exactly his words, but close enough.

Anyone see the TLC or Discovery program on the Yellowstone volcano? According to scientists and geologists, they have found rock and ashes from that volcano all over the world... One of, if not THE, biggest volcanoes in the world. They only discovered how big it was after seeing photos of the area from space...

Those giant volcanoes are actually called Super Volcanoes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_volcano).
And don't worry Thumper, it would take out Montana a few minutes after Wyoming. Poor Microsoft, being in Washington State, they would be gone too. Intel (in southern California) will still be around. Apple _might_ be taken out immediately. (do I really only care about the companies? lol)
I watched a 20/20 special about the end of the world and this was listed at, like, 3rd most likely. Biological warfare and Nuclear warfare were the only things listed more likely, I think.
Hopefully, I can take over, say, Mongolia (that's above China, right?) in 20 years or so and build an underground base for us. (like on Reach in Halo) That would be the safest from the ash but it would get there in a few months but not _as_ bad. Maybe we should colonize Mars a bit faster too.
Yeah, so if Yellowstone blows, we're screwed.

Great Falls MT is pretty much home to Malmstrom AFB (http://www.malmstrom.af.mil/), which is a bit of a misnomer since the runway out at the base got decommissioned in 1996.

Small update we are now in the eye of the storm where I live currently has electricity. The garden is a complete mess with branches every where. Also ships have escaped except the one that is up the beach. Parts of the country side including Newcastle are flooded completely. Many roads and railway lines are cut. It is pretty crazy the bark has been stripped off some trees by the weather. People are still missing presumed dead.

one of my friends in newcastle rang me last night, he had to evacuate his house because he was chest high in water.
and my road is like a warzone too, branches everywhere. the rain seems to have lessened a bit this morning, but as simon said, it's the eye of the storm, so it looks like the next few days will be mad.
it also sucks because it's the long weekend, so people were all hoping to go away on holiday. one family of 4 were on their way up the coast for their holiday, but they got swept away into a river. it's so sad.

Yeah a hole 10 m across and 30m deep opened in a road when a culvert collapsed and it swallowed a car with a family in it They found they car empty wedged under a bridge a couple of kilometers down river.
Edit: The bodies have been found
Plus a 4Wd drive or two have been swept of the roads.

Holy crap, it ate the road away and everything... insane. Not surprising that they didn't notice that. But yeah, the best thing to do in a flood is to get to high ground as quick as possible, and to not drive on the roads, try to swim through it, etc. Water is a strong force to reckon with. Think of it as a "thicker" wind, you think 20mph winds are a little strong? Try 20mph water, then decide.

It was an interesting time here that's for sure. Being stuck in Hospital and watching it all happen wasn't fun. I didn't know if I'd have a house to go back to. The water came up to my back step (I can see the water mark), but didn't come into the house luckily.
My best mate lost his car, which along with the flood waters meant he couldn't come and visit me or check my place for me.
I really thought the windows were going to blow in on the room I was staying in at one point, the wind was unbelievable.
There are still cars littered around the place that had to be abandoned and haven't been collected by tow trucks.
I haven't been to see the ship that washed up on the beach yet. I did see it from my Hospital window though.
It will still be there for a while, so I'll have to head down and check it out before I go back to work.

Its a coal ship so it has gaint coal compartments. At the moment they have filled the middle compartment with water to way the ship down so it doesn't roll. They are also moving the fuel oil off the ship and to higher compartments. Then they will empty the water and drag it off with two huge tugs.

Well it's been rainly steadily and heavily for the past hour or so and the wind has been going up and down.
The news predicts it's going to be very bad, so much so that they are going commercial free for their first hour in the morning to cover what they expect to happen. Mostly it is going to hit Sydney and South of there. It's not supposed to be as bad at where I am North of Sydney, but we'll see what the night brings. It's just after 2am here and they reckon it will hit around 3am, which looking at the weather radar looks likely.

I'm pretty sure there was a mini-tornado at work when I was there earlier today. :D
It started raining, got heavier, then it got super-heavy. All of a sudden, the wind started whipping around the raindrops in all sorts of directions, and a trashcan from around the building came flying down the other side of the building, where I was, and almost hit a Camaro.
P.S. Also, a cigarette bin tipped over and cigarettes spewed forth all over a freshly swept section of the shop. (I work at a car dealership.) I swept them all into the sewer drain. :D
