I'd google it, but I'm about to leave for work--so, I ask the collective, what's the best way to go about having this done? Should I bust out my dremel or start looking to see if anyone in the general area has a CNC driven mill?

Yeah the best is to get them laser cut. If you want aluminum ones that is. Look in your local directory for companies that provide custom laser cuts.

I'd be more impressed with fan guards that you made yourself, be it with dremel, file, whatever. It's more of a DIY art in my humble opinion.

Self-made stuff is usually more satisfying, it's like "Holy crap! I made this, wow." ... well, in my case anyway, especially when it comes to drawings, I've never been good at drawing, but lately I've been getting better, probably because I've been drawing stuff on the PC with Ctrl-Z as my loyal assistant. That and I have a good program and a writing tablet, lol.

I go with jd, something home made would probably be better, that and it might be cheaper too.

Ok then, if I decide to go the homemade route, what thickness stock should I look to buy?

Going to be done @ 120 mm. Full circle around him like a normal fan guard.

That's gonna be pretty cool, lol. Probably the must unusual fanguard I've ever seen, lol.

Here's where I got the idea from:

Cool... if you put a window on the case you can put that decal there, lol.

If that is going to be painted you could cut that from just about anything, doesn't necessarily have to be metal.

That decal is about $40 from the online store where I found the image--I think I'll be better off making it into a guard.

If it wasn't so damn expensive, it'd be a possibility.

I'm going to play around in GIMP with the image and see if I can just get the basic outline--what I'd like to have done is have the lines on his tux and top hat just engraved into the metal.

But first, I gotta quit goofing around and knock out a 1000 word rough draft of an essay.
