Don't trash it.

I remember a guy in here that repairs "dead" monitors by replacing a simple thing that goes wrong with them. I 4get who and what it is but I'm sure he'll come to the rescue sooner or later.

Dont get impatient and throw it away because you'll be kicking yourself when you find out it was a 2 dollar part.

ooh no i wont.. i'm determined to fix it hehe. so far i've found i can place a white cathode to replace the backlight setup to brighten it up.. then also something about inverters which i'm going to read into more.

Replace the CCFL's with LED's or new white CCFL's.

the commen problem with back lights failing is either the light it self is dead, and easy enough to replace, or the inverter, which is equly as easy to replace.

I just found an awsome site for a big list of backlights.

http://www.lcdpart.com (http://www.lcdpart.com/index.html)

Good list of lights.. and even if it looks like yours isnt in the list you are able to measure up and find one.

Also read somewhere else somebody using SMLED for longevity.. I might try that instead.

I remember reading awhile ago about a guy who replaced his dead CCFL backlights with a plexiglass diffuser, and a bunch of white LED's.

Very cool idea, I think.

There is another option for an LCD with a bad backlighting...

A LumenLab DIY projector! :D

You can get more information HERE (http://http://www.lumenlab.com/forums/)

There are tons of examples in the "Completed Projects" forum

Another really nice example is "The_Gnu"s Widescreen Projector project log over at Bit-Tech. LINK (http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=111807)
Although he used a much smaller LCD, the concepts are still the same.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!
