View Full Version : My cat has been gone for about 41 hours
He was let outside early Saturday morning, and hasn't been seen since. I've been looking around for him, but haven't found him anywhere, and he hasn't come home yet. Today I made up a lost cat sign, so hopefully someone has seen him. Tomorrow I'll call up some places, like an animal shelter or a vet and see if anyone has brought in or reported a cat. There's a chance he could be in someone else's house I guess, but he's not friendly with strangers, and probably would've just ran away from them. That and he would've meowed to go outside enough to piss them off and have them throw him out. Though if he is at someone else's house, that would mean he's safe, and maybe they'll see the sign I made and bring him back.
I took some pictures of him a few days ago

I'm eating graham crackers with milk.
Seriously though, this is on a fine line, but I'll give my advice. I say to go ahead and do what you're doing, signs and all that, and also to be patient. The other thing that may be is that (not to scare you) he may have known he's going to die (if he's an older cat) and went somewhere else so that you don't have to find him in such a condition. Either that or he's lost, found a mate, etc. etc. A number of things could have happened.
He's only 2 years old, and was born in this house. When my other cat died years ago (she was like over 18), she found a spot in the house. He's just never been gone this long before. And it was raining when he went out, so he wouldn't have wanted to be out for too long.

Huh... he probably did get lost or something... I really don't know what to say, sorry man... Pets are smart, but they just sometimes get lost or find themselves in a situation they don't know how to handle...

Have you checked under the house with a flashlight? Are there woods near by?
Kinda looks like the adventurous type. He may been in a tree or something.

Hey Crimson and xRyokenx why would you post what you ate today? that has nothing to do with this post..... DaJe Good Idea on the signs you made. heres a link (http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=445&S=0&SourceID=28) which might help you out.
btw cats are strong survivors some cats can stay away from home for 3 - 6 weeks without an issue. Also cats don't leave home to pass on. They may choose to hide if they are not feeling well as not to be bothered

@Computer-Geek:
Crimson was being sarcastic and I was just going along with the joke. After that I felt obliged to give advice, so I did.

Because this is a computer related forum. Granted this is the off topic section, but that doesn't mean you should post ANYTHING you feel like posting. I think its a kind way of saying, "Hey, don't post spam." I could be wrong though.
"Just post whatever the heck you want, within reason."
I mean really, sorry about your cat and all, but there is little we can help you with. Everything should be common sense for ya. Ride your bike around calling his name, ask around if anyone has seen him, make a bunch of posters, check in every nook and cranny around your house or your neighbors with permission. etc etc etc. We shouldn't have to tell you that, it should be something you just do out of common sense. However, I will say that is one damn cute cat! Hope you find him! Good luck. ^_^
Also, same thing with medical related things. Common sense says either go to a doctor, call for help, or visit a _medical_ forum/website if you don't feel like doing the things your supposed to. hehe, I found that out the hard way. ;)

DaJe - Did you find your cat yet?
I do hope hes ok I like cats! :(
For what it's worth, I'd far rather hear someone sharing something that's worrying them than half the idiotic threads that get posted here.

Gorgeous animal.
If anything, you can try and look at known places they hang out at (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8771).

On the tech side of things, see if Kinkos has some of those color Xerox machines when getting your copies, ok? ;)

I know its hard not to worry but don't worry: cats always come back. My grandma's cat came back after 4 days and was ok. Then again I sure hope nothing bad happened to it.
Good luck with your cat,
Indybird
Yesterday I walked around the woods for 1 1/2 hours looking for him, and drove around looking. Today I made up a new sign, printed out about 30 of them and put some up around town and at the police station, grocery store, convenience store, post office, and animal hospital. Still haven't found him yet.

Have you tried saying Herrrrrreee Kittty. . Kitttty. . Kitttty. . ?
Did you put the cat food outside?
DaJe, he looks like a cool cat. I hope you find him.
Here's a link to a pet rescue site that has some good advice on finding him:

I know how scary this stuff is. My cat gets out all the time and likes to run, and run, and run chasing every kind of animal he can find. He left once for about 6 hours, and then I heard a panting, meowing type noise, and he was pacing around the house trying to get in. He was panting _a lot_. Not really sure what happened out there, but he went and hid in our basement for a while, till he felt better.
Don't worry too much though. Cats aren't dumb animals, and he'll come back when he's ready. Eventually the outdoors thrill will wear off, and he'll back track to your house. Look around for him when you can, but don't kill yourself worrying. I wish you good luck in finding him.
Today I went down to the police station and they put a message for me on the town access channel. They approved it and put it up right away. It'll air for a month, when usually they only air for 10 days. I went out and put up some more signs, and talked to people as I walked down the street. Whenever I saw someone in their yard, on on their porch, or in their garage, I went up to them, talked to them, and gave them a sign. I also stopped by two churches. My town has a population of less than 3000 (used to be like 2,000) yet there are still 3 churches here, two of them on the same street. But the doors were open, the lights were on, and people were in there. Everyone in this town somehow seems to know who I am, but I don't remember anyone's names, but they greeted me by name when I went in. Someone took one to put up at a school, one of the pastors took some to keep there and to show on Sunday. Hopefully I'll find him soon.
i wish the best of luck to ya daje,
i remeber how heartbroken i was when we had to get rid of our cat...
i remember the night you had your cat up on cam several months back...when you had the flea in your case :)

I hate to even think about it but if you live in a little town near the woods, it could have been a coyote or even more likely a fisher.
Check with your neighbors and animal control, if you have a lot of animals go missing in a small area it's most likely a predator.
Down here we worry about encroaching alligators or released pet pythons but every town has something that wants to eat something else...
Somebody called yesterday from another town saying they might have seen him in their yard. I went around looking, and also went to the animal shleter in that town. He wasn't there, but they have a picture and description of him. The animal control there also knows he's missing. I also called the police dispatch of a neighborind town, and left a description of my cat for the animal control there. I tried calling the shelter there, but no one answered, so I left a message describing him. Because he has FIV, they only keep him for 7 days if they find him.

Some of our cats (we have 18) will disappear for up to a week at a time. Half of those cats are indoor only. We would keep them all inside by 9 indoor cats is more then enough to drive you batty.
Good to see you care about him though. Most ppl wouldn't go through that effort for 'just a cat'. All the cats we have are rescued, mainly from a farm just down the road where the guy had 1 female cat, and would drown/poison her kittens (which she had all the time cause he wouldnt pay to get her fixed)
Finally we just went down there ninja-style at night and stole all the cats from that B@stard.
Cats are amazing. My sister had one get torn up by a jack russel. The vet had to remove all the skin from its abdomen to its butthole. Spend 3 weeks with its exposed intestines, and we had to wash it with warm water and iodine. Took it to the vet 2x a week to get the skin sewn back bit-by-bit as it regrew.
Cat is doing just fine btw, and looks normal unless you look close at its stomach area.

That reminds me of my two gerbils about a year ago, they seemed to be eating or scratching each other'S abdomens, and Im pretty sure we were seeing their organs. We killed them cause well their "holes" were getting bigger, and they seemed sick a little bit... lol
and my cousin's cat decided to ran away a couple of months ago, he was around 17 years old, he probably knew he was nearing his end and decided to just ran away instead of just die there.

Good! If I were you, I would have spent some extra time with a paintball gun and a few dozen eggs, but congrats. on taking action. I love cats so much, if I ever saw someone be mean to one, they would definitely regret it *evil look in eyes*.

The gerbils may have been going insane or something... like Gerbil Alzheimer's or some crap like that. If pets are attached to you enough, they will just "disappear" if they know it's their time to die, either that or hold on long enough to come up to you and die in your company, depending on their personality. If I were about to die I'd give everyone my sweet farewell and my will, then (depending on the situation) leave in some way like characters do in books... I read too much.
