ya, broke my arm this time, not my leg...not too much visible damage but i severely cracked my radius? and twisted my ulna? (forgot which one was which) still in a splint for a couple days to let the swelling go down, cant think of how to paint the cast when i get it :( any ideas?

Damn man!

You can be really different, and install some LEDs.
Maybe some nice paint job... something that... Maybe like a "see-through" of the cast, and the "inside" of your arm is a mechanical-system like Terminator's. :)

ooh, thatd be REALLY cool, not sure i can do that with my left hand though :(

So, the important question would be;

HOW?

Did you take a tumble off the 15' pipe at your local skate park or slip and fall on some spilled milk?

Oh and I am for the LED mod. You could power them with a battery...

Drive on down to 29 Palms and have Commando hook up some wicked airbrush skulls and flames on a carbon fiber background when you get your cast. Better yet, get some carbon fiber, and take it to them and tell them to form your cast out of it. LED's would be awesome too. A small battery pack with 3 watch batteries and you're set.

Seriously, broken bones suck. I broke my right hand back in November cuz I was pissed off and punched a wall. Not too smart of me. Here's to hoping you feel better soon.

lol are you crazy ?! he would have to live with it for the rest of his life lol =)) :D

be easy on the arm for a week or so and then start to move your fingers otherwise your arm muscles are going to lose mas, and create more mobility issues after the cast is of

the first weeks are easy, but only after that it starts to get nasty, you get very easily irritated

i had a few broken bones and ribs, it suck, but at least it was worth it for me ! (mountain bike wipe outs, speed descents etc)

hope it was worth it for you, and not some childish mistake (<hint> sgtm <hint>)

Sorry to hear that man! Maybe more whole milk and less juice boxes/sugar soda will help prevent all these young people breaking limbs like twigs. Get better soon.

Unlucky mate! Hope it heals soon and you dont need surgery! :)

As for painting it - be very careful. The inside of the cast is super-absorbant and any paint that touches it will spread out and end up touching your skin. You DON'T want to have paint on your skin for 6 weeks - Some paints will simply disolve your skin in that amount of time!

If I were you I would just permenant marker it - you can apply permenant marker through a stencil to get pretty cool effects!

I must be the only one who's never broken a bone..?

It's not that I dont take risks.. I'm into downhill biking also, and I've had more than my share of failed landings, tree kisses, and general stupidity related tumbles.

Not to mention hit by a car, a bike, an axe (in the face no less!) and several baseballs to the back of the head (running for home).

LED mod for the cast gets my vote.

LOL. One of my fave stories from back when I was a Corpsman is about a marine who came to see us at the hospital. He was cradling a (very) broken fist and his explanation was that he had gotten pissed off and punched a wall... We set it and sent him on his merry way. He was back within an hour! Limping... He said that he got pissed off over breaking his hand so he had kicked his locker and broken his foot... The sad thing was that we had to write him up after the second one.

The good old "Destruction of Government Property" rule. I got to see that applied twice while in the service.

Once when a friend went skydiving and broke his foot.

Another when my friend fell asleep on the beach and got 2nd and 3rd degree burns.

Talk about insult to injury...

Oh and Crimson, I am with you on the "Got Milk" angle. No osteoporosis for me...

Haha.. i love that reaction. I was 6 yrs old, and my cousin was cutting down a tree with an axe.. he was around 12. I walked up behind him, and he smacked me in the face on the backswing, with the butt end of the axe head. Threw me about 10 feet back, and I screamed like mad, but totally unharmed. :)

I've never broken a bone, but my brother did and he whined about it the whole time, lol. Hope it heals fairly quickly and accurately.

Hope your bone heals well

BTW, I hate milk too. Luckily, I haven't broken any bones. (that I know of...)
EDIT: Now that I think about it, I may have fractured a rib or 2. They seem flatter on the right side...lol ;)

Uhm, Not to be an a$$ or anything, but there should be 0, zero, NO tolerance for drunk drivers. "."

...and it is NOT up to you about pressing charges. That is a state matter out of your control (unless you don't report it).

Recently, less than 1/2 mile from my house a 20 year old intelligent, beautiful woman was hit by a drunk driver and KILLED! This was done by a woman driving on a suspended license with prior DUI convictions. The vehicular homicide was witnessed by the driver in front of her. He said he remembered passing the young lady, then when he looked in his rear view mirror, the pedestrian was gone and the driver behind him hit the guardrail right where he last saw the pedestrian. The driver continued down the road for 200 feet before loosing control and hitting an embankment. The impact threw the young lady 200 feet down the hill and it took the firefighters 45 minutes to find her body.

http://www.santacruzsentinel.com/archive/2007/May/22/local/stories/08local.htm

That could have been you. How would you feel if you found out that a drunk driver driving a vehicle matching the description of the one that hit you had just killed someone and you had the power to prevent it?

I'm just saying...

Sorry about the rant. Drunk drivers should be dealt with harshly and promptly before they have the chance to kill anyone.

I am glad you are not seriously injured.

Drink Soy Milk! Get the vanilla kind though, after a couple cups you actually start to like it ...kind of. It's really good for you though. I've heard more than once people saying that it's better for you than milk. Not that I care though, I LOVE whole milk.

....you know, when you think about it. Milk is a very weird word. o.O

lol

Uhm, Not to be an a$$ or anything, but there should be 0, zero, NO tolerance for drunk drivers. "."

I completely and absolutely agree one hundred and ten percent. I've heard way too many horrid and heart breaking stories because someone was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Drunk driving should be taken as a serious crime, not some damn slap on the wrist like the police around where I live give out if you get caught. I really don't give a poo if a person endangers themselves, but when you carelessly endanger others as well? Then I want to see that persons ass behind bars and facing a hefty fine. Driving while under the influence is absolutely intolerable. When I'm older and decide to have kids (god help us) I don't want to have a police officer walk up to my doorstep and tell me that my child is dead because either he or someone else was intoxicated past the legal limit and decided that it would be a good idea to drive home themselves instead of calling a cab or a friend/family member.

Hell, one of my friends in California was driving home drunk around a month ago. She barely clipped another car and ended up rolling her fathers car something like 3 times down the road. Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Except her, which not to sound harsh or anything, but after it sunk it what she did, I could of cared less. Unless she died, which then I would of definitely cared, but a broken arm is a fair trade instead of me yelling at her for the next month and half. I'm pretty sure it sunk in that what she did was extremely stupid. Hopefully she's learned her lesson, sometimes people don't learn though.

I absolutely agree that drunk drivers should be dealt with extremely harshly and there should be 0 tolerance or leniance regardless of what or who the drunk driver is...
That said, I found something interesting and just wanted to mention it. I noticed when you were talking about the tragedy near your home, you said,

a 20 year old intelligent, beautiful woman was hit by a drunk driver and KILLED!

Did you ever notice that whenever someone discusses a tragedy it always seems to be worsened when they say the victim was young, beautiful, smart, a mother etc ? What if it was a 66 year old sterile mentally retarded man with burns all over his face? It would still be every bit as serious and as horrible but those stories never pop up.
Just a thought... ugly people matter too.

Ironcat; You are correct. I did not even notice my wording until you brought it to my attention. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder and not to sound corny, but I find almost everyone beautiful in some way.

Yes, I almost sounded like a witness for the prosecution, trying to tug the heart strings with descriptors. The real point I was trying to get across, is that that person should have been reported even if it was just "... a white late model truck just hit me and knocked me off my bike" kind of report. Thats just me though.

FWIW, I have been behind that particular drunk driver before. I thought she was weaving dangerously across the road (almost hitting a parked car), so I pulled over and called the cops.

Sorry again for the derail... neg rep me.

Oh, I thought you meant with the sharp end of the axe.

I've not managed to injure myself seriously (yet) but I did manage to get a screwdriver pretty firmly wedged in my hand.
You know, one of those fine jewelers screwdrivers.
It was kinda weird watching this screwdriver jammed fairly deeply in my hand, but it didn't hurt until I yanked the thing out. :hurt:

Boy that hurt...
(Next time, I'll pay less attention to CSI, and more attention to what I'm working on.)

I got myself in the ankle with a very sharpened cutting axe when i was younger. only took a tweezers (to take out the chipped bone) and 4 stitches to sew me up again.

I also broke my hand, but since i was still only in middle school, i didnt tell anybody about it. said my hand was swollon because i got stung by a bee! my fingers healed up, but unfortunately they will never be straight again...

Broke 2 ribs during a skate session, also broke the coccyx in a snowboard session. a couple of years later I broke my knee on another skate session. Oh, and almost fogot the most painful one: During a Bad religion show in '93 someone made a stage dive from the third floor, It it me right on the neck, it didn't broke, but I couldn't walk for several days, and had to make those bones put back in place.
And for scars, I have hundreds of them...

Now I'm 32, and still skateboarding, swowboarding and go to punk rock show...
Face your fears
