Well, Ive been gathering parts for my build, which I will put into idea zone perhaps tomorrow. But Im coming into a color conflict issue, or atleast I think I am.

The case I am building, is acrylic, with a complete aluminum frame and other aluminum support parts. I have a ton of blue LED fans and such lying around, but Ive had blue for a while and quite frankly it seems a little played out. (And for some reason, i have a harder time seeing things under blue light, always have...).

So today while my girlfriend was taking her college placement exams I scooted up to the microcenter in Cambridge, MA. (about 20min from the college, but like 2.5 hours away from where I live...so good opportunity to go). I found a decent fan controller, which was what I was looking for. Was going to just build a rheobus, but dont know to much about that stuff so i just bought one. The only decent looking one that would fit my case, had led's that went from blue on low settings to red on high settings.

So I start thinking. If I get red LED's and change out the blue thats in a few of the fans I have then keep a couple blue that are going to be in more discrete places and not on the controller, I can Have mostly Red LED's showing through when the fans are cranked up on high, which would match the controllers led's, then when i am going to bed i can turn them all down and the color of the controllers led would be blue and because the red was turned off, the blue's would show through.

So here I am with this perfect picture in my head...so I grab up a red CCFL that was pretty cheap. Get a pack of multi sized red shrink wrap, which I needed anyway. and Im thinking Im good to go and everything is going to be perfect.

I go to best buy, where i work, and look at led fans, because insted of ripping them out of my other pc to use them, ill just get new ones. So I look at the antec tricools, and the dynex. I get the antecs for ~$5, and the dynex for bout ~$2.50 so i go with the dynex because i need a few. No where on the box does it say it does the little $.99 cheapo blaster rifle led dance.

So I get home and throw them on teh molex line to check em out. The leds are dancing and blinking (CRAP) and the CCFL is orangy. ARGHHHH.

Any one know how to short circuit or stop the little controller that makes some of those fans do the little LED dance, and make them glow constant? hmmm. I'll have to figure it out I suppose.

I guess red and blue might go well together in the case...just got myself hoping that it would fall under this magical idea in my head perfectly....guess that doesnt happen often though.

Im sure I will get it the way I like it eventually. Just a little dissappointed I suppose. It will cost more in gas to go return these things anyways. But ohh well. I think i can make it work. Once i get going ill make a log of everything in the log section.

Dont want to keep anyone in suspense seeing how i have a crapload of doctors appointments for health stuff and possible surgery on my chest...thats why I took into this modding/pc case building thing, because I've been going crazy, I cant work, can hardly walk up a flight of stairs without getting pains and sitting on the pc is driving me crazy. So I decided to build my own case. Any who, I guess Im just venting.

~~~~~~EDIT~~~~~~~~~~
No one will prob see this, because It isnt in the title. Prob coulda made its own thread, but Ill keep it to one.
Been looking online and cant really find much. Im making my own case and...how do I make the power button? I guess I can rip out one from on of my atx cases and study it...hmmm...any ideas?
I could prob run a wire from both ends of the board and make a switch that had a small piece of wire and when I pressed the botton it connected both the wires for the duration of holding the button. Because you can use a screwdriver to connect the pins right? but I dont want to do that lmao, want a switch. Which that design really isnt doing anything different than the screwdriver thing. connecting the circuit. I know they have buttons at the hardware store, just not sure if a normal one would do with wires running to it?...I guess, why not...Guess im off to my old A+ cert book to look up how they work and if they are different than any other switch. cant remember lol
EDIT~~~~
Just answered that question, just had to ask google the right questions. Pretty much any momentary switch will work as a power switch. Just not one thats always on like a toggle (less you actually toggle it to switch it). Thats what i figured, just wanted to double check. Like to get things straight before i screw things up :)
Im going to go look at red/blue cases here 'n on the i'net and see what I think about them. Just dont want the blue to dominate the red in my case thats all I suppose
Ive made some Wiring tutorials in the Tips Tricks and Tutorials (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=38) Section. If you want to check them out.
As for shorting the fans out your going to have to show a picture or something. They may be the type of LEDs that are lit by the energy generated by the fan and not directly connected to the power you could always swap out LEDs on them. Though I don't recommend soldering if your having chest pains and such. If you do solder make sure you have adequate ventilation.
I had some minor chest pains myself after hovering over my soldering iron.
. . Also the LEDs are more than likely the flashing type themselves.
Hmmm, when I get a camera I can take a picture. They have a strange lighting sequence. They will each take turns blinking and then they all will, then they will stay lit, then they will flicker. Just a pattern. Seems predetermined. Because it isnt a set blinking. I could deal with just blinking. But it looks like a tacky kiddie pattern blinking sequence.
On the chest pains. My chest caves in a bit, and i keep having to go to different doctors to have them look at it. The pains are from the musles and such. Prob gonna have to get surgery to push my chest cavity out to give more room for my organs. Arghhh, lol.
Today I got most of the frame of the case cut out and drilled. Now I just have to get the lucite cut to size and drilled and rivited to the aluminum without cracking it again...(got the base piece all cut and drilled and on the last hole i cracked it all the way through. damn. Worked ok on my practice piece. lol).
Have to go to another doctor like 6 hours away tomorrow so eventually this weekend when I have more work done, ill get a log going. That way its a substantial start lol.
Is it these? (http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10068242&catid=20378#)
I've had some similar problems. I was doing some one handed push ups, and fractured a brestbone away from my sternum, it raised up and I was having allot of pressure building up and trouble breathing, I though for sure it was a heart attack. I went to the hospital and I was told it would be best to leave it as it is . .as my heart had shifted in my chest cavity. It's just raised ever so slightly but for the first month it was making some weird noises popping and crackling. Seems to be ok now. I haven't had any pains in a few years. I had more x-rays done like half a year ago. .The doctor said looks like everythings fine. I was thinking to myself what kinda doctor are you anyways? . . Was like when I was younger. . Your Okay. . "Here's a Lollypop and a Balloon" :)
Whoop. . I just sat on a grape. .was wondering what that was :D
Ya, those look to be the same fans. They blink all retardedly and I cant figure out how to make them just light up.
Ya, I just went to another doctor yesterday, the one my little brother went to for the same type of surgery. Talked with him. Today we decided to get the surgery. And I have to go in for it July 20. So ill be set to go to college again, and wont have to miss a semester. Apparently I have pectus excavatum, some scoliosis, kyphosis, a barrel chest because my body adapted to the lack of room in my chest, and half my heart is being squished hehe so a couple of my valves are leaking blood into the other parts. Woot! Nothing really life threatening, but painful and annoying. So hopefully all will be fixed soon. And sorry about your chest bro. That would suck. Be like "ya I was doing some nasty one handed pushups and part of my chest just separated". Damn, that sounds so freaking painful. Atleast you have a cool story. Mines just like, ya it grew that way and most doctors ignored it because they didnt know what it was. :dead:
lol
I have a similar but not as serious problem that was being ignored because the doctors just didn't care. I've had it all my life with signs of it and it just started to be treated a few years ago... I'll not get into what it is, complicated to explain and not life threatening, just annoying and a hormonal thing, oh joy.
I hear ya man. Def know what you mean.
For the fan, yesterday I was doing some tinkering around with the dynex fan, and I figured out what controlled the blinking LED's. So thinking to myself, there really isnt anything I can do about it, how but I just take out the trusty rotary tool and remove that chip...
Bad...I did get the right chip, buttttttt.........I completely rendered the led's useless lmao. The fan still works like a charm, but now instead of blinking color, they just sit there doing nothing. Ohhh well. Guess I will just keep them blue. And if i dont like them when all is said and done, ill sell them for what i paid for them to my girlfriends brother and go pick up some antec blue ones or something.
I shoulda just spend the money and bought the red ones instead of trying to convert the blue ones. But I had a little fun, and a lot of frustration, so i guess i learned something. lol
so i guess i learned something. lol
As long as you do, lol. Look at what you may have done wrong, and if you feel like it, try again but with a different strategy that may work better, it's what I try to do... good luck with the fans.
