Well, Ive been gathering parts for my build, which I will put into idea zone perhaps tomorrow. But Im coming into a color conflict issue, or atleast I think I am.
The case I am building, is acrylic, with a complete aluminum frame and other aluminum support parts. I have a ton of blue LED fans and such lying around, but Ive had blue for a while and quite frankly it seems a little played out. (And for some reason, i have a harder time seeing things under blue light, always have...).
So today while my girlfriend was taking her college placement exams I scooted up to the microcenter in Cambridge, MA. (about 20min from the college, but like 2.5 hours away from where I live...so good opportunity to go). I found a decent fan controller, which was what I was looking for. Was going to just build a rheobus, but dont know to much about that stuff so i just bought one. The only decent looking one that would fit my case, had led's that went from blue on low settings to red on high settings.
So I start thinking. If I get red LED's and change out the blue thats in a few of the fans I have then keep a couple blue that are going to be in more discrete places and not on the controller, I can Have mostly Red LED's showing through when the fans are cranked up on high, which would match the controllers led's, then when i am going to bed i can turn them all down and the color of the controllers led would be blue and because the red was turned off, the blue's would show through.
So here I am with this perfect picture in my head...so I grab up a red CCFL that was pretty cheap. Get a pack of multi sized red shrink wrap, which I needed anyway. and Im thinking Im good to go and everything is going to be perfect.
I go to best buy, where i work, and look at led fans, because insted of ripping them out of my other pc to use them, ill just get new ones. So I look at the antec tricools, and the dynex. I get the antecs for ~$5, and the dynex for bout ~$2.50 so i go with the dynex because i need a few. No where on the box does it say it does the little $.99 cheapo blaster rifle led dance.
So I get home and throw them on teh molex line to check em out. The leds are dancing and blinking (CRAP) and the CCFL is orangy. ARGHHHH.
Any one know how to short circuit or stop the little controller that makes some of those fans do the little LED dance, and make them glow constant? hmmm. I'll have to figure it out I suppose.
I guess red and blue might go well together in the case...just got myself hoping that it would fall under this magical idea in my head perfectly....guess that doesnt happen often though.
Im sure I will get it the way I like it eventually. Just a little dissappointed I suppose. It will cost more in gas to go return these things anyways. But ohh well. I think i can make it work. Once i get going ill make a log of everything in the log section.
Dont want to keep anyone in suspense seeing how i have a crapload of doctors appointments for health stuff and possible surgery on my chest...thats why I took into this modding/pc case building thing, because I've been going crazy, I cant work, can hardly walk up a flight of stairs without getting pains and sitting on the pc is driving me crazy. So I decided to build my own case. Any who, I guess Im just venting.
~~~~~~EDIT~~~~~~~~~~
No one will prob see this, because It isnt in the title. Prob coulda made its own thread, but Ill keep it to one.
Been looking online and cant really find much. Im making my own case and...how do I make the power button? I guess I can rip out one from on of my atx cases and study it...hmmm...any ideas?
I could prob run a wire from both ends of the board and make a switch that had a small piece of wire and when I pressed the botton it connected both the wires for the duration of holding the button. Because you can use a screwdriver to connect the pins right? but I dont want to do that lmao, want a switch. Which that design really isnt doing anything different than the screwdriver thing. connecting the circuit. I know they have buttons at the hardware store, just not sure if a normal one would do with wires running to it?...I guess, why not...Guess im off to my old A+ cert book to look up how they work and if they are different than any other switch. cant remember lol
EDIT~~~~
Just answered that question, just had to ask google the right questions. Pretty much any momentary switch will work as a power switch. Just not one thats always on like a toggle (less you actually toggle it to switch it). Thats what i figured, just wanted to double check. Like to get things straight before i screw things up :)
Im going to go look at red/blue cases here 'n on the i'net and see what I think about them. Just dont want the blue to dominate the red in my case thats all I suppose
