I am being eaten alive. By fleas. We have tried to get rid of them as our dog had them, but they spawn too fast. They have spread to me too now. Someone please help... I am going insane... :'(

That sucks man. They are VERY hard to get rid of. I'll concur with everyone else and suggest the bug bombs though. You'll probably have to do it a few times, but eventually, they'll be gone. Just don't over do it like Mythbusters did.

Move to Alaska, there's no bug there...

I'd suggest taking the sheets off all the beds and soaking them for a few hours in the wash.
Then vacuuming and possibly spreading some flea powder under the couches and beds, and giving you dogs or cats a good flea dip.

You might want to chain them up and use the hose on them. .if there anything like my dog gets pissed when I wet him.

Start a circus! Fleas just want to be loved too! That and a blood meal.

OK seriously, I have been there and it is a bitch to rid yourself of them Bug bombs just make you clean your house since the mist will get on EVERYTHING!

If you have a lot of carpets, try Diatomaceous Earth;

http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html

That is the only thing that I have found that works 100% with no chemicals.

Also buy and apply Advantage, that will help.

BTW, it will only get worse before it gets better since once you do ANYTHING there will be a temporary explosion of the population, then it will die off.

OH and Alaska has the biggest mosquito's I have ever seen in my life. NO bugs...

We've given our poor dog a bath like five times this week to get rid of them. We've been trying borax on the floor, does that help at all? They're just a pain and I'd rather not have to use bug bombs...

EDIT: Just got back to finish this, my mom got a carpet spray and we're gonna go nuts on these things. Sorry if this qualifies as spam, this is aggravating to deal with.

Bird mites are just as bad.

Bag up all your clothes in trash bags.
Wear the same 4 or 5 outfits for around 10 days if possible for everyone in the house.
Shower daily.
Bathe your pets every other day and use flea killing solutions on everything and they will die off.
No, borax doesn't cut it. Go out and get anti flea carpet & upholstery dust.

I know you'd just a soon not, but I have to concur--bug bombs. Set em off in the morning, and vacate the house for a day.

Just be sure you wash all your kitchen stuff afterwards.

Washing the dog with flea bath, only kills the fleas that are on them and then usually only the adults. That is why I suggested Advantage. Advantage disrupts the flea life cycle by killing off the pupae and adults. Remember the fleas do NOT live on the dog, they are only there for a meal. You have to kill them where they live.

From the website:
-----
How it works

Use Advantage monthly to kill fleas within minutes. The active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Advantage stops biting fleas in three to five minutes and starts to kill adult fleas within an hour after application.1 Within 12 hours of application, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. This is important because flea bites can lead to skin infections, cause discomfort for your pet, lead to allergic skin reactions, and can even transmit other disease-causing organisms, including tapeworms.

You won't need to use another flea control product. Advantage kills fleas before they lay eggs, so their life cycle is broken at multiple stages. It also kills flea larvae within 20 minutes of contact.

----

The next step is to kill the fleas in your pets beds or sleeping areas. Flea eggs can live for months in your carpet and dogs bedding even after washing multiple times. Regular soap and water do nothing to fleas and ticks. Chlorine bleach will kill most of the adults, pupae and eggs but it is hard to use on carpets where most of the buggers live. They have a pet safe spray for this although it is NOT child safe and too much of it will harm your pet or small children if they play on the carpets.

I have been through major infestations twice. Once I came home from work on a particularly hot day and there was almost a cloud of fleas hopping around the carpet. I **** you not, there were billions of them and all the eggs hatched on the same day... I couldn't even live in my house until it was taken care of.

Good luck! And remember that it WILL get worse before it gets better.

EDIT: OH and stop washing the dog so much with the flea shampoo. It can harm their nervous system if used too much. (According to my VET)

Damn, wish you had a picture of that! Must of been a horrifying spectacle!

Reminds me of a time when one of our garbage cans had a huge maggot infestation. I wondered why the garbage dude didn't take it... when I opened the lid I nearly shat myself. I forget what I saw though, I've added that memory to the "repressed" list. lol

This thread just got kind of gross... lol

My mom picked up a spray and got some meds for the dog, hopefully they work. Now I see how the Bubonic Plague spread so quickly and hung around for a while, these buggers are hard to kill.

You may not want to spray them with foam soap anymore... House centipedes feed on spiders, bedbugs, termites, cockroaches, silverfish and other household pests.

The house centipede is capable of biting a human, but this seldom occurs. When it does, it is no worse than a minor bee sting. The worst one can usually expect from a house centipede's bite is some pain and a slight swelling at the location of the bite. The symptoms generally disappear within a few hours.

I spent a summer restoring houses and apt complexes for rent. I could tell you some stories that would make your stomach churn. They still make mine.

I've had a bird mite infestation in my room before. Damn birds built a nest under the air conditioner and the mites came through. I couldn't do anything but suffer through it until the birds had grown and left the nest. Bird mites are annoying little buggers and I never want to have that experience again.

See, I would have solved a major infestation with a flamethrower and a fire extinguisher. Torch, extinguish. Over and over.

The thing is that we don't want to have a bunch of scorch marks around the house, I was gonna do that, but mom won't buy me a flamethrower. :(

I think along with the fleas we also have a vampire infestation. On my leg and on my side I have bite marks side by side spaced similar to those of a human mouth. The two sets of marks are differently spaced so we either have a quickly growing pubescent vampire or two vampires, a kid and a parent. I also think I'ma have to boot those birds out before those mites come into play, damn. Stupid eaves with no vent covering them. I'm in itch city this summer. :hurt:
