Hey DrumThumper, I have a question for you. CAN I COPY YOU?! That's the sweetest key chain I've ever seen!

Do it. Or if you're lazy, I can butcher some other outdated stuff and put it up on Ebay...

DrumThumper,

Now that was a strong move. Why didn't I think of that? Absolutely great idea. I mean, like you could like start selling those, kinda good idea.

Definite +rep for an awesome idea.

I'm in. I've got an old processor just waiting for that. You know what would even be cooler, is if someone could etch a TBCS logo on the head of the proc.

You should hit up b4i7...he is our new etching guru.

Yeah, he just PMed me. He definitely is the new go to guy for etching. Sounds like he's got some killer resources.

Better still, remove (dremmel?) the cover over the cpu, to show the insides. This would be better with older processors as they're bigger inside.

Are all the pins still on the other side? Or did you do something special to that side as well? I have alot of old cpu's that I could definately try this on.

Hmm, I'd heard of this being done but never actually seen it. Now I want to... man. I got Pentium MMXs all over the place 'round here too!

Now we just need to think up a good use for Pentium IIs (Slot 1). :D

lols... this how I remember that this pllace is like home...

I used to have an old 8MB stick of ram on mine until the board broke, and one of my good friends has a Pentium 2 on there...

btw... you're scaring me with this dead 478 buisness... I'm currently running 1 Dothan, 2 Northwoods, and 1 Willamette....

I bought a HP Pavilion off of ebay that had been sabotaged by the seller's kid's--they pulled the HSF off of the CPU and let it run for however long it took for it to go to data heaven.

So don't worry too much about other 478's dying--in fact, my server is a 478.

what thumper said.... my northwood 2.4 lasted 5 years (I believe I got it at the end of '02?) with stock everything

Nothing like using outdated hardware for something else.

I have two 486 MoBo's, both have 8 sticks of memory:

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/2140/cameradump065ru1.jpg

So I pulled them out:

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/5332/cameradump067jt9.jpg

And made keyrings!

And the other 8 with only 2 chips on each stick:

Those are preddy neat. . Only one question I can think to ask. .
What are you going to do with all of them?

Bucko
07-28-2007, 07:41 AM
I'm giving out a few to friends, then I'll probably chuck the rest on eBay.

Hmm... I have an old computer in the car boot (that's the trunk for you Americans). It's been there since I collected it ages ago. One day, I'm going to put a new board in it and get it up and running.
Did I say it's old? It's a 286! Two huge 40MB drives in it (apparently). I haven't looked into it yet, but I think I will, just so I can be the one with the oldest hardware keyring on the forum!

I've got an ISA hard drive in a box somewhere. It's well over a foot long, full-length card. A hundred megs or so. I could drill a series of holes into it and put hooks in 'em for a whole line of keychains, but I have no need to. :D

I think the P4 s478s make the best keychains... or a P4-775, if you're lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to find a dead one. No pins to worry about! I'd be a little concerned with the strength of anything else - would hate to have a corner break off and lose my keys.
