Project Drei sechzig is now underway. I'm taking my Xbox 360 Elite and modding it. I ordered some parts last night for it, to optimize the air performance of it.

I ordered the XCM High Speed Air Cooler, and the add-on fan for that kit. I also grabbed a Tailsmoon Clear Fan Duct. I have plans on swapping my Hitachi drive for a Samsung, and buying a clear DVD cover for it like this one. (http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=16268&cat=260&page=1) After that, I have a plexi window in mind; custom, along with blue ghost flames. I gotta practice doing ghost flames first though.

Sounds pretty cool i look forward to seeing this. I WISH i had the balls to mod my 360. I'm just so afraid that as soon as i mod it its going to die and I'm going to be stuck with a dead 360 and a voided warranty.

All it takes is a strong ingenuity and patience. Or maybe I talk too lightly about modding a $500+ xbox. lol but I'm sure every modder that's built anything here can do what I'm gonna do.

n fact, I'm getting the clear fan shroud replaced with another clear one that has blue LEDs already in it, for just $5 more. Unfortunately, Llamma.com shipped it out early this morning, before they got my e-mail to cancel the order. Atleast they'll let me ship it back without the restocking fee.

Heh, I get it. "Project Three Sixty".

Anywho, it looks good so far.

the 1st to post the translation! +rep

I had the idea of the 360 logo over the dvd drive for a while now. I just dont know if I should do it, because henmill already did it; I dont want it to seem like a design ripoff. So the DVD cut-out idea is still up in the air. I am open for suggestions though.

Finally got my parts.

Everything laid out:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1471.jpg
Some kind of cell phone booster that came with it all. Now I'll see if these actually work.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1472.jpg
Time to get to work.

New fan:

Because this wasn't designed for the Elite, is why I'm gonna get bit in the ass later.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1477.jpg
Well, it fits.

Adhesive tape.

This foam block diverts all of the air toward the GPU heatsink.

Need to wire a molex connector later on.

Install DVD Drive
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1490.jpg
And then fan.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1491.jpg
Ready to go.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1492.jpg
Works, but...
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1493.jpg
Fan 2 isn't spinning.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1494.jpg
0 RPM's

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1496.jpg
So being discouraged yesterday, I threw all the stock **** back into it and tested it with just the pusher fan to see if there were any improvements.

The 360 Elite's don't use as much power for the processor than the 360. The 360 freezes after an hour of play laying on its side. The 360 Elite starts to lag and jump frames after an hour, but doesn't freeze. After installation of just the pusher fan, I found that it didn't offer much of an improvement gaming-wise. It still glitched and skipped frames after an hour of play.

Now to hop back into it:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1498.jpg
I fixed the fan; loose wire.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1499.jpg
But I hear grinding noises now,
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1500.jpg
even with the case assembled. The GPU fan is grinding something.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1501.jpg
I have no choice but to make it fit without fault.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1502.jpg
The video output block is taller than a 360's, because of the addition of HDMI. This kit wasn't designed for the 360 Elite.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1503.jpg
I had to move the RF card; it sends the info wirelessly, instead of thru a USB.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1505.jpg
I soon found out that the board was too far away from the sensors of the receiver uniot to pick up the signals.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1508.jpg
So I moved it closer using the existing mounts from which it used to be screwed to.

Finished product, and no grinding.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1512.jpg
It gives off a nice blue glow. I can't wait until I install the plexi window.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1513.jpg

So, the install of the fan kit; 1 to 10, it was a 4. Not too bad, but it wasn't exactly all snap-it-in. I needed a pair of dikes to cut the plastic. Also it was kinda like a puzzle; install the clear shroud, next is the DVD drive, then the pusher fan.

Elite: $515
Parts (so far): $120

Total cost (so far): $635

PS: And don't worry; that temp display will be painted Matte Black.

Well I had a change of heart with the direction I want to go with this project. I'm gonna just do a nice simple rounded rectangle plexi window. I'm also gonna drill into the plexi so my pusher fan can suck air from directly above, like luciusad's theory (even though it is not necessary). The Hitachi drive will still be swapped with a Samsung, and the Samsung and side covers/HDD will be painted with some color changing paint. Still debating about the ghost flames, since I have people that owe me money.

And lately I've been sick and tired of asking nicely and not getting any responses, online or in school. Basically, I loned over $200 because I'm so nice and not a dickhead; $40 of it was gas money!1

k no more ranting. Plans:

Rounded Rectangle Plexi Window
Fan Vent in Plexi
Custom Fan Cover
Color-Change Paint
Hitachi-Samsung Swap
Samsung DVD Cover

This is another idea I came up with; I don't think anybody has done this yet. This is a shot of the panel that you can have the 360 stand up on. Drei sechzig will always be on its side, so what better to be the first, to my knowledge, to have a window on the side of a 360?
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1552.jpg
I trimmed the cage, too.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1553.jpg
Prepping the underside by getting rid of all of those tabs:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1554.jpg
Here you can see the lines.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1555.jpg
Pilot hole.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1556.jpg
Tried the finest bit I had with a jigsaw, doing a practice cut. I didn't like how rough it looked on the other side; either side.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1557.jpg
Also, the "o" in xbox pops out; I bet no one knew that, cause I didn't.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1558.jpg
So I instead drew my idea on the finished side, because pencil is pretty easy, suprisingly, to rub off of the case. Definitely a "do not try this at home to your own elite because your parents will kill you" shot. Luckily, my parents know that I know what I'm doing, otherwise it wouldn't of got new fans. :D
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1559.jpg
Aaaand....the all-famous modder's shot.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1560.jpg

Now I need to make a new sig...

Llamma.com offers the service of doing the Blue Ring of Lights for $49; looks like I saved myself $49.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1575.jpg

Ok, the work in progress shots:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1562.jpg
Start with a 15 watt soldering gun, 0603 SMD Blue LEDs, solder (I used .015 dia 1 oz solder), and some patience.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1563.jpg
Sorry I didn't go too in-depth about this part, didn't really need to. Rlatively a simple mod as long as you've soldered once before.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1564.jpg
And it looks great and will match everything else blue. (Test shot, this is only a test.)
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1565.jpg
Finished shot:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/RSCN1574.jpg
All that's left is my controller, but I need to order more LEDs.

BLUE LIGHTS!!! I LOVE BLUE LIGHTS!

Any ways i like the Idea for having a window on the side, very different, I've certainly never seen any one put a window in the side. +rep

Edit: Sry would have been a plus rep but i have to "spread it around some more" So you get one of my counterfeit reputation points.

Haha, that's cool with me.

Guess what you get? ANOTHER UPDATE!!1!one!2!!1

I cut the lid with a jigsaw.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1577.jpg
Plan for the plexi:
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1578.jpg
I did a rough cut on purpose,
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1580.jpg
so I could file it down without worrying about taking off too much with the initial cut.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1581.jpg
All filed and smooth.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1582.jpg
Time for the pexi, but
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1583.jpg
it doesn't sit even.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1584.jpg
So I filed and cut more tabs underneath.
http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a246/gigaglytch/DSCN1585.jpg

aaand in between battery charges of my camera, I found out that the plexi was too thick. I need something thin enough to willingly bend with the contours and the shape of the 360 lid, and something that won't be crushed against my heatsink when put all back together. So for now, I put it back together without any plexiglass to check it out and to play some Halo 2 before I call it a night.
