Yeah unfortunately its not a good idea to trust a tool that doesnt have even a brand name...or a model name!..nothing to indicate the manufacturer.


There are several mini mills/lathes out there that are tried and true for the hobbiest-- that have hundreds of replacement parts and cutting tools made for them. Many of these tools are manufactured in the same plant, but have different brands. all are considered very good:

Unimat
Harbor frieght branded
Micro-Mark (Micro Lux)
Jet
Grizzly

I see what you mean . .It would make since to pay the extra couple hundred and buy a name brand with available replacement parts.

My school has a Grizzly Precision Mill and a Grizzly Lathe. They're pretty bitchin'.

As for harbor freight.. what the hell!? They make the cheapest crap of all time. I only use them for replaceable crap. I figure you would stick to the old saying Paul...

You have much to learn, young padawan. Harbor frieght rebrands some of the same quality tools that you'll find other places. Like I said above, most small shop mills/lathes/drill presses and so forth come out of the same exact factory and are the same tools as the bigger names. I can't speak for Harbor's other tools, but I know my mini-machines ;)

Both are considered the best mini mills you can get.

Well, I don't know my all in ones, but for the most part I do know my tools, and I've had some bad experiences w/ Harbor Freight tools (or should I say Chicago Electric or Central Machinery...?)

The difference between a harbor freight drill press for example and a delta-rockwell drill press is a huge, huge difference.

Funny, because Rockwell/Delta comes out of the same factory in Taiwan as many other no-names :p

They do now. It's a shame really, the old American Delta-Rockwell is what I'm talking about. Delta is now made by the same factories as half it's competition.
