My Computer Icon Mod
Ever thought your icons look to common, or sometimes don’t suit the drive in question, then this tuturiol is for you, Below I will explain how to change your drive icon and labels.

Before I start please note that you will be using and editing the registry for this, although the sections needed won’t cause any system faulures please note that you can damage your system beyond repair if you change something you shouldn’t therefor I will not be responsible for any damage done to your machine.

What you will need
• Your icons – Download or locate them.
• Notepad with all data needed

Get Started
Download or locate all the icons you will be using and place them in a single directory, a good one would be “C:\Icons”
Next create a notepad document with all the data you will need, IE:
“Drive 1, (C:), Label: System Drive, System.ico”
“Drive2,(D:), Label: Download Drive, Download.ico”
When you create this document enter the drive number, The drive letter, the label you want and the name of the icon you wish to use.

Now load “REGEDIT” (Start-->Regedit) and navigate to the key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Explorer\” Now create a key labeled “DriveIcons” (Note the capatilasion)
Next create a key for each drive letter ie:

Within each key create sub keys labeled:
“DefaultIcon” and “DefaultLabel”
Change the value of default within the DefaultIcon so it points to the icon you wish to use.

Next change the value of Default in DefaultLabel to what ever you wish to be seen.
Do this for every drive. Exit Regedit and load my computer and see all your hard work, if you see a broken icon image check the path for the icon.

KDE icons.. *drool*.

Check out a program called "Rocket Dock" while you are searching.. it's a very cool app that gives you a menu bar like on a Mac. Zoom on hover, bounce on click, running app indicator, etc. I've been putting it on all my PC's, and hiding the desktop icons. :) Looks way cleaner.
