i know that the main power button on all comps are of the momentary type... so i was wondering on how i would make a military style switch into a momentary switch...

You could use a relay I guess.

i'm not sure if this would work but you might be able to get 2 military style switch's and have one control the power supply switch and the other hooked up to the power switch (which would be removed) then wire it up so that when the power supply switch is off the power switch is on then you would flip the psu switch then quickly flip the power swtich so it only has the circuit completed for a short peroid of time. if i can find 2 switch's i might investigate it.
working on a paint picture to help explain.

as far as i know a relay works just like a switch as there being an always on and always off depanding on how you wire it...

yes thats what i was thinking too. if the solenoid has power all the time which it would because its not a momentary switch then its just like having a second millatry switch. here is teh picture i was talking about before.

whoa, we talking about this style (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=118&products_id=21776) or something else?
i was trying to reduce it to 1 but this way its fun you could even add a third safety and pretend you in a movie plan flicking 50,000 switchs before anything happens.

I like that movie it was fun... but any ways the shroud that you see around the switch it self thta you see from your is added on afterwards.. what i was origanly getting at was making a regular military on/off switch in to a off/momentary-on kinda switch..

well i know there are momentary switchs that look like toggles but i cann't find any. if you only want one switch and don't mind flipping it on then off you can use a toggle style.

you could get a really old computer that use a on off style switch haha, you would have to overclock like crazy though.

your better off getting one that you can flip on/off then hitting like a normal red button. like this: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.crazypc.com/images/casemods/switches/miltoggleblackfull.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.crazypc.com/products/82392B.html&h=200&w=200&sz=7&hl=en&start=4&um=1&tbnid=sIO8XECfw8mMiM:&tbnh=104&tbnw=104&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmilitary%2Bstyle%2Bswitch%26svnum%3D1 0%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26channel%3Ds%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official
You could mount a red button switch next to it.

i fixed your picture/link
thats what he wants but it won't work becuase its not momentary.
and if your talking about useing that switch to arm a second button he doesn't want that.

well, the easy answer would be to simply flip it on and off. To start, flip it on for... one second. To reset, flip it on for 5 seconds, etc.

I know Maplin (UK) do these Military style switch covers:

However, I'm not sure they do the momentary switches that would be required for this application.
