I need to know how I can wire a CPU fan to a molex connector.
Is it possable?

I have a Intel CPU Fan off a 775 Heatsink.
Any help would be greatly Appreciated!

I have a Black, Green, Yellow, and Blue wire.

Hmm, you have a blue instead of another black. Maybe thats the 5v? I really don't know though.

The way I modded my Blue Orb II to work off of Molex is like this...

I stuck the red wire into the yellow wire "socket" and the black wire right next to that one. I discarded the Yellow wire (seen above, but not connected to anything) on the blue orb because it's only needed for RPM detection.

I think I got that right. I believe Tybrenis knows how to do this if I remember correctly. I had it working before, but I'm not sure if that is the correct way as I just now put it together again. Since my motherboard took a dump, everything has been disassembled and stored away.

The 4-pin fan headers are for PWM (pulse width modulation) fans. The speed of PWM fans can be controlled by software (usually the motherboard BIOS).

The pin layout for the 4-pin PWM headers are:

Pin 1 = Black GND
Pin 2 = Yellow 12v
Pin 3 = Green Speed sensor
Pin 4 = Blue PWM pulse

4-pin PWM headers are backwards compatible for 3-pin fans, ie. a 3-pin fan can still operate in a 4-pin header - you can read the fan's RPM (via software) but you can't control its speed.

A 3-pin fan should connect to the Pins 1-3 on a 4-pin header. But if you make the mistake and connect Pins 2-4 instead, nothing will happen and the fan will not be powered.

And have a look at this from Intel:

Thanks! I got it going now. I was wondering what those other wires were for.

I'm pretty sure both blacks are just GROUND.

I just cut the other wires off and wired up the Black and the Yellow.
Seemed logical at the time. :D
Works.

yeah, both blacks are just ground.
IIRC they all go to the same place on the PSU.
/* goes to find a PSU to check. */

Yes. All the black wires are just connected together.
