Question for you all,

I just installed a 4th HDD, it's a 500GB Western Digital SATAII drive. My comp has an ASUS A8R32-MVP deluxe which indicates in the manual that storage SATA drives need be connected to SATA 3&4 ports and OS SATA drives to SATA 1&2 ports. I have WinXP installed on a 250GB SATAI on port 1, 250 and 200 GB drives connected to secondary IDE, and connected this 500GB to SATA 3 and tries 4 also. It shows up in device manager but not My Computer. I installed sata drivers again and nothing. There is one more SATA port on a separate section of the mobo which I'll try next, but does anyone have an idea why this puppy won't play nice?

Have you looked in the Bios, seen if this bsby is showing? Or into the device manager?

Ok, let's go back to the Bios. What are the settings of your SATA connections? IDE, RAID, others???

Edit: the settings of those connection, I dont need to know the others ;)

The only freaking thing about Bios, is Sata drives installation...

Ive had the same problem with Western Digital Sata Drives
You need to format the drive or it will not be recognized.
I just pop the windows cd in and use that formatting tool then exit setup, and Reboot.

What was it?

It just needed a partition set up before booting windows. I had installed other drives before that didn't need this so I didn't even think about it.

Oh, it's like trying to open a computer, forgetting to turn on the powerbar ;)

another way to do this would be to right click on my computer and select manage, then under Storage, click on Disk Management. You will see a pretty graphic that shows all of your drives partitioned or not. You can format the offending spinny bits there too.

that's the easiest way I've found to do it when I set up new drives and was what I was about to mention until I saw it was already all fixed.

edit: Congrats on joining me with 7 bars.

I just noticed, thanks! Not sure how that happened unless people are really wanting to win the challenge... ;)
