Might as well build in a toilet so then you'd never have to get out of bed.:D

I never got what all the rage was about using the computer while in bed.. It isn't exactly comfortable unless you are sitting upright, but in that case you cant just go right to sleep.. You have to readjust and move the keyboard/mouse anyways. And where would the monitor go? Just a projector?

You could attach a swing arm to your LCD.

. .Or You could set the projector to show on the roof and play games while your Laying around.

Very true, maybe even a swing away table like the ones at hospitals.

What about those video glasses (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/28/22moo-intros-11-new-video-eyewear-products/) that have 2 little screens in them?
Your wife then wouldn't have to see any light from the screen.

Or you could go all out and steal a prototype spinning display (http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/28/twister-goggle-free-3d-rotating-panoramic-display/).

so thats gunna be the back of the headboard? cuz thatd be one heck of a back problem if your chair would be your mattress.

If you didn't use the swing arm that would be pretty bad for your back. especially if you sat there for a long period of time.

why dont you post inside the same thread, its keeps bandwidth down, and helps to keep track of each project. If you post a new thread for each problem or thought, the site would be overrun with random threads

rant aside, you cud do a nice TBCS etch or something like that

I'm curious why you want to put the PC in the headboard. I mean, wooden ones are already pretty heavy and this would make it look even bulkier.

Here's sort of an evolution of your "play games in bed" idea:
-Put the PC in a modded case or in your night stand.
-Mount a projector above your headboard and have a screen at the foot of your bed or on the wall in front of your bed.
-That way you can lean back on some pillows instead of being hunched over as Greco mentioned.

EDIT:
A quick SketchUp I made:

As you can see in this highly detailed drawing, the projector screen comes up out of a slot either manually or powered if you hook some motors to it. (which, I must say, is much smaller than your headboard thing.) 8)

If you did it like that then you could lie on your front to play games, etc.
but the keyboard would have to be the same level as the mattress, or you could get wrist-strain.

What about neck strain?

It's an interesting idea that could develop into something, but in it's current form I personally don't think it'd be that convenient:

- If you sat on your mattress, you'd have to sit cross-legged and that would be very bad for your back, plus it'd be exhausting
- If you lay down on your mattress, that'd still be bad for your back, your neck (while looking up at the monitor) and your wrists/arms (while typing or supporting yourself)
- You'd never get out of your bed again
- Mattresses are actually incredibly bad support for anything except sleeping. Even leaning back on your pillow/headboard will undoubtedly cause back problems for you later.

Redundant's suggestion is good, with the projector, but that still leaves the problem of good back support. A chair gives you the best support, so my suggestion would be to either keep your computer and your bed separate, or to find some form of support for your back.

Sorry for the mini lecture on back support, I've had this sort of thing drummed into me since childhood.

Maybe could use the swinging table thing that hospitals use (mentioned by Bajawoojie) and maybe have a shelf or alcove in the wall next to your bed that you could keep your computer on/in when you're not using it. That way you wouldn't have to lie or sit backwards on your mattress.

I always felt that anything other than sleeping and sexxors in bed is painful on the back, as your ass sinks into the matress. i have a bedside alarm clock which projects onto the ceiling above me. You could perhaps do that, and have the screen projected onto the ceiling and then maybe a vertical keyboard with a rollerball mouse.
