be really really careful with it, my cousin used to take them apart, and he said that there is enough power left inside (like a monitor) to set you on fire, weeks after turning it off.
here are some pics of what Ive done, enjoy

the picture with my hand in it, look and you'll see the speaker ( for post )
my dad wont let me take apart any of the case that the mb came in. all I got was the cpu, the mother board, and 64 mb of ram(wow!!).
if you look well youll see a blue power switch in one of the pics.
ill update you guys soon!

well I dont have any 3rd degree burns (I have 2nd, but that came from steping on a hot soldiering iron. ouch.)
I got it 2 weeks ago on a trash day, riding my bike 2 blocks down I found it and thought... can I stuff a computer into that thing??
apparently the answer was YES.
yet I still need to paint the inside of the microwave. it is all black from the microwave thingy. it had burnt up from its previous owners. ill put up some pics for you to see.:D

I think it's a cool idea, this is a type of "found object" modding (I think that's what it's called). Looks like fun!

If at all possible you could hook up the power and reset buttons to a couple buttons on that control panel there (and possibly make them in the numbers or whatever to confuse people that you don't want using the computer) and hook the display up to display the temp. of the CPU. This is a cool mod... I have my old PC here and I could slap that into something random... hmm... luggage PC...

as for the buttons, yes that is what I am doing. but the temp on the cpu, I have only been able to find displays that are 5 and something inch (cd rom drive size) if you see one that has a display that is no bigger than 1.5 in by 1.5 cm (or if you know how to make a custom display) tell me.
also I lately saw a mod that was a luggage pc. ;)
now Im off to lowes and radio snack (lol) to buy supplies

Are you going to integrate a LCD screen into the microwave as well? Have it take place of the door, or just fit it behind the window in the door.

With what, the LED's? There are several tutorials in the tips, tricks, and tutorial section concerning LED's. There are also some worklogs of LED's swapping in mice in the completed mod gallery, peripheral sub-forum.
I know, but the tutorials are for wired mouses, I have a wireless on. It looks alot diferent.:?
Look at what I got yesterday

You need and Xacto knive and some Menela folders or thick paper for that stencil. Cereal boxes work to :)
Just Print it out bigger glue the print onto the folder and cut out your pattern.
Check these Sites (http://www.makezine.com/blog/archive/2006/09/stencil_revolution_stencil_com.html) out for Stencils (http://www.stencilrevolution.com/tutorials/tutorialsview.php)

thanks alot!:) that other stencil looked like crap. ill see if I can make one tomorrow.
anyway... went to radioshack and got some crap, but I got the wrong resistors. wrong math, I got a 100 ohm. correct me if im wrong, I have 2 1.6 volt leds 12-3.2=8.8 so 8.8/.02= 440 so I sould have gotten the 440 ohms.
forward to todays last update

What video card do you have, and what is the screen resolution of that LCD? Some small screens have low resolutions that the current video cards cannot produce, so you may need a cheapo PCI video card to run it.
it is using onboard. And the res, I cant find. the product has been discontinued.
if it needs to be old, my pc has got you covered!:)
the lcd's brand is accurian.

sorry guys. I am currently on vacation, and my pc is being a ass.nothing is working right. I messed up. big time. I have allways wanted to mod a case. But I dont think i was born to mod. no one seemes to really like it, and another forum im posting on, hates it. :(

Well that's up to you. I think it's kinda cool actually.
Besides, who gives a **** what others think about YOUR case. Remember, it is yours to mod however you may please. If no-one else likes it, who cares as long as YOU like it. You're the one who did all the work and has to look at it and use it each day, so as long as you're happy, forget the rest of the world!

+rep at bucko for the pep talk.
juan at the end of this mod, its YOUR desk this PC is going to be sitting on [or the counter in this situtation]. its truly your own opinion that really matters. :D good luck bro
time for an update (finally)
I decided to put some usb ports on the side.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2260.jpg
I need to use some bondo, to fill in the holes.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2258.jpg
what a beauty
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2257.jpg
It doesnt look like the led on the flash drive is on but it is! yay!
I also got my glow sticks!
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2264.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2265.jpg
I also added a mic
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2269.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2268.jpg
Before I went on vacation, I bondo'ed:? the back of the microwave for a door, to access the ports.
you can see the hinges right next to it, and my Ipod earphones.
THere will be a magnetic lock, but first Ive got to make a good stencile to make a design on the plexi glass, which will be like a window on the door.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2267.jpg
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2266.jpg
one of my newer Ideas is to use a timer, That will turn on fans when turned that will bring hot air inside the microvave to actualy cook the food!
I will mount the fans on the big hole I made shown here.
http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o23/juanpeaches/IMG_2198.jpg
I was also thinking about using some type of burner used in a warming drawer to heat the microwave also!
also thanks for the encouragement to keep on working on the project. I appreciate it!:D ;)

I think you've got a really novel idea going on here; definitely keep at it! Besides, it's way too early for people to be judging where you're going with it. But make sure the popcorn button does something unexpectedly cool ... this mod has some good whimsy & humor potential. :)

I like this. I was trying to think of something to put in the kitchen as a basic recipe storage and research computer and this is a cool idea. But in my case 2 microwaves might be weird. I'm glad you decided to continue forward. This is looking really cool so far.
+rep for the idea
Thanks alot guys!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

for small holes like those USB ports, you might be better off putting 2 holes into the plastic with a drill press or something, would turn out cleaner looking then with a dremel

Since the last post I have evened the holes alot, and filled in the extra space, soon I am leaving to go to the hobby store to get some white paint, to make it look even better. but you have a good point! thanks:rolleyes: 8) :bunny:

DO IT! Make a new thread, because if it's not a PC mod then it belongs in another mod section. Stick it in the "your mods" and link us up. That'd be HELLA cool man. lets see that bad boy!
Good luck with it, sounds tough.
i was gonna make a microwave case. lol whats the rule for people making a case somone has already done as a theme/case?
There is nothing against it. However don't copy what has been done before. As your idea was original and creative until you saw this thread you must have oodles of other neat, original ideas that can and will be used. Mod away. show us what you've got and wow us with creativity. One of the hardest things to do is break away from the crowd.
