Ok, so I was chatting to someone, and i've decided to see if i can make a harness holster for a laptop that's on wheels and can be controlled via remote. Mostly cos i'm little, my laptop's heavy and its annoying carrying it to Uni.

For this, i'm going to use an old broken laptop for my testing. This is mostly due to the fact that i have limited experience with remote control cars and can see myself driving my poor laptop right into the middle of the road.

Picking up a broken laptop from the tech shop today, will go by toyworld and buy a toy truck whenever i can be bothered getting up out of bed. My main concern is the weight of the laptop and the motor capacity. It will have to be able to pull the laptop up a hill....otherwise its useless to me...and it needs a break. Can't stress that enough.

This is such a cool idea!

it's also 100% smurf-less.

well make sure you make some kind of roll cage for the laptop so in the event that it does drive out in middle of the road it can take a beating.

Wow sounds cool.

I had a thought, make a way for it to drive into a charging dock and set it up to charge the RC car and laptop. Kinda like how a Roomba charges.

how much does your laptop weigh ? You could use a normal rc car and remove the body and customize a platform for your laptop. http://www.stanbridges.com.au/index.cfm/shop.p1725

I think if you got one of the larger toystore grade monster trucks, the size of the frame and motor strength would be perfect for carrying a laptop. If you wanted more power than that, you could look into hobby shop grade RC cars but they get a bit more pricey.

It's a cool idea but I don't get how you could make it so the pros outway the cons?

are you just going to drive around your laptop? (sounds like a prank waiting to happen.)

there are tons of used high quality rc cars on e-bay. I'd go with a 4wd with adjustable shocks, aftermarket gearing and crystals (can see some1 messing with you by running the same controller if you buy a toystore car)

I'd go with a E-Maxx or possibly a REVO that has a blown motor and convert it to a brushless electric.

This sounds like a great idea that can be pulled off, but...

The one thing that keeps coming to mind is Battlebots (http://www.battlebots.com/)!

If you put your laptop in a backpack, do you, umm, tip-over? :p

I imagine you're making something like this:

The compartments on the side are for the power adaptor and other accessories.

Thanks for the +reps guys. (It didn't take too long.)

Coincidentally, it looks like an, albeit simple, Forerunner design (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forerunner_(Halo)) too.

That is a nice design but how portable is it ?

There are golf bag holders that use a radio signal to follow you around that would be cool cause then you wouldn't have to control it .

That would be a very cool idea. I wonder what the price would be?

I went down to the toy store...something with enough umph to run this baby up a hill will set me back around $200...not my kind of budget :(

Haha this is pure madness, but it will be a great project to do
The only thing that comes to my mind is that someone could just pick it up and run away with it, not sure about the area were you will be taking the rc cart.

possibly a secure locking device might be inhand, i got stuck in my mind a tracking device what are normally used on cars, if it is robed then it could be tracked down..

Im also thinking of a van or HGV design to protect from bumps and other hazards, slide in the back kinda thing and with a reliable lock

just some ideas, good luck with this. I would find it really cool if you get a end product

OOh, you could setup a taser defense system. If anyone tries to pick it up and run, you could set off a taser and zap the crap out of them.

See if you can hook up with some robotics students at your uni to help build the prototype ;)

That's a pretty decent idea, I'd bet they would jump at the chance to build you a rig-rider.
