So i got my case side all finished and following linear case mods site, i got heavy duty rubbing compound, and i'm trying it out, it seems to be working ok, but oddly enough paint is coming off when i use it. i dont think its the bottom coat, because it is metallic paint. i think itws some of the metallic pieces and I used like 6 or 7 layers of clearcoat.
anyway the question is, Would an automatic buffing gizmo, ruin the finish?
(this by the way means, i'm tired and buffing by hand takes a long time, and i have a headache :( )

well if doing it by hand rubs off the paint i wouldn't do it with a auto one. are you sure the heavy duty rubbing compound is the proper product for shining up a paint job? i'm thinking its for metal not paint if the paint comes off. i would go to autozone or some car store and look for some paint polish or similar product and use that for a shiny finish.

crap, so am i going to have to resand, re-primer, re-paint, and clearcoat?

how bad is it? if its not too bad then going over it with the paint polish stuff or similar product should *in theory* help get rid of the scratchs. thats what there suspose to do. i say *in theory* because i have never used those products myself so i'm not sure who's is best or if they even work. i would think so though.

How long did you let the paint cure before you started buffing? Might need more time, or even heat to harden.

cured for 2 days,
problem solved, i just needed to keep buffing. i tried the automagic buffer considering i thought i was at a loss anyway, and it buffed it out better. it is much more shiny, and i can almost read the words on my shirt looking into it. the only problem now is that it looks like dirty metal, instead of shiny chrome, it actually looks pretty good dirty, so i might just encorporate that look into the project.
Good to see someone else from Ohio. Welcome aboard.

mmmmm pizza...
cool, came out good. i didn't realize it was for paint/autobody. i thought it was a metal polish.
with metal flake paints...there will be some that settles in the clear coat :)
