you might need to be a bit more specific as to what your doing......
thickness of materials and tools needed will differ for every job.
As for paint car paint is usually used.

Get back to us with more details and we might be able to help more.

dremel isnt essential if your only doing basic things. do you know what you want to do?

well for my first mod i think im going to make a lego case. I no its bin done 10000000000000000000 times but I dont care. I might want to get into building cases out of sheet metal but, not for a while.

NOTE: Im going to take over the RT mod my "friend" didnt finish.

1. Depends. We need to know what you're doing.
2. Dremel, jigsaw, heatgun, various screwdrivers... You'll find out what you need when the time comes to use it. If you don't have the tool for the job you need, looks like you need it after all.
3. Spray paint (whatever you like really).
4. I don't understand what that means. Metal? Yeah, metal, plexiglass, mesh...
5. We don't know _your_ location.

Welcome to the forums VCR! But for the future, being a little more specific is always nice.

5-Ya I meant like basic places. Like home depot, lowes ect.
4- Like what type of metal aluminum is what I heared works the best.

EDIT: Ya sorry about not being so specific, Ill try better next time :)

if you just want to get started the easiest thing to do is find a cheap case, cutout a window, add some ligting and a few fans. Thats what i did!

for making smooth turns and what not just draw out the pattern you want cut and follow the line.a jigsaw is used for turns most often.

as for good "local" places we still don't no near where you live...

Places - As you said, Home Depot and other hardware stores. You'll just have to look around where you live, look through the phonebook, make some calls and see what people have.

Materials - Plexiglass, acrylic, aluminum, steel, mesh, split loom... All depends on what you want your project to be.

And if you don't mind me asking, what the hell are you guys talking about with this "RT mod"?

The most important tool of course is this:

If you use this one right you can create new/better ways to accomplish your task at hand.
