This mod isn't my normal harcore mod, but more more a mild mod for a freind who is not keen on watercooling but still wants a case that will handle some hardcore overcloking.

I'ts back to some good o'l traditional modding, air cooling and a simple paint job.

Masta Blaster, a case named by Zak made... by Defyant.... for Harry.

A few yrs old now, but still has the potential needed for this mod.

Clean sharp lines, i want this mod to be stylish with a clean stealth look to it.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/oldcase.jpg

First thing is to cut an extra hole in the rear of the case remove all the standard metal grills and add a 90mm top blow hole.

A scuff back, and a prep and she's ready for primer.

the top is masked, as this will be sprayed a diff color.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3659.jpg

A few coats of primer and then 3 coats of custom tinted candy apple red metailc and a quik rub back and prep for clear coat.

with the chassis painted and ready i moved onto the front panel.

the idea is to make the panel breath, i need to let the for front mounted 80mm fans draw air.

I decided to cut out the bottem section and replace it with mesh. also adding a removable air filter and relocatating the on/off atx switch.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3681.jpg

a ruff cutout was done, this will be tidy'd up ltr and sme mesh was cut to size.

just make one whole side out of fans :P

sXenoG
07-16-2005, 07:53 PM
Lol my friend wanted to do that b4. I think itd be interesting to do a case where one whole side of fans were blowing in and the whole other side was an exhaust. Im not too keen on any type of cooling right now cuz well my room get s to 90 degress F and its so not pleasant having computers going althought i spend all day here anyways.

thax for the support guys! real good......... weirdguy...what?

sxenoG i hope your friend does that....you should try modding someday too! but thanx for stopping by and having a chat...

back to modding eh?

Fitting up the quad front fan rubber trims and grommets, these are importantwith so many fans to help stop vibration and excess noise.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3718.jpg

The rubber trimming will need some trimming itself :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3720.jpg

The end result, always looks nicer than just bolting fans streight in.

kinda going back and forward here, but im painting in winter in the workshop, so im grabing be best parts of the day to paint :)

A qick mask up and primer and its outside to paint.. you guys can see that both side panels on masta blasta have holes cut in them. I went for a rouned
edge cut abd used the same curve on both panels.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3929.jpg

the primer was let sit for a day then wet rubbed smooth using the "black shadow" teknique.

Then the parts were brought back into the workshop and painted silver with 3 coats of clear.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3945.jpg

I was really happy with how good the silver looks with the custom red.... ive seen it on a lot of mods before and new this combo would work well for MB.

While the paints spends the next few hours going rock hard, i moved back onto the front panel.

next was to clean upthose nasty inside edges , this edge will be used to support a "removable" cleanable filter,

I figure with over 100cfm being drawn threw the front MB was going to be a real dyson.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3906.jpg

A small frame is cut , then the filter is glued to it and the whole unit is layed in the cavity.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3908.jpg

next was to graft back in the original atx on/off switch. drilling oout the hole where the old usb port door was this would be a perfect place to relocated
the switch to.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3911.jpg

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3913.jpg

Some carfull dremaling to get the hole "just right"

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3915.jpg

still needs some cleaning up, but you guys get the idea :)

T'was time to pop down to my fav place :P the plex shop and have the guys cut me up a few peices of 4.5mm smoked plex!

one nice sexy side window, and 3 smaller peices that will make up the new front of Masta blasta.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3923.jpg

The bottem peice you see in da pic will fit it the floppy hole and will need some hand beveling to fit.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3932.jpg

you can see in the bottem pics how the smked plex will replace the old panels.

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3927.jpg

Next was to do some 120mm frehand hole work!!!! i love this **** :)

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3975.jpg

A clean up for the edges....this is important!!! smothing these will reduce wind noise!

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/defyant/Masta%20Blasta/IMG_3976.jpg

Peal off that protective coat and glue the window in! WOW!! i love this look......and FULL CREDS to HAL! man you rock,

You seem to mod surprisingly fast, I just saw this today how long have you been doing this mod? I must be honest I think you have got to be the best person out there when it comes to working with plastic. I'm really liking this mod although its very simple the colors are stunning. Is the entire mod planned out by you or the friend you're doing it for? Or you just going and changing as you see fit?

lot of ppl say that... think if your setup, have the right tools and parts needed mods do seem to happen fast..... but in saying that HPR3 has ground to a holt...

this mod was pretty well mapped 2 yrs ago when i built the case for son Zak... it was just a matter of me getting a few free days to knock it over.

Time to move onto the other side of the tower!

knowing how hard those dual 120's blow, i'd need a better solution to EXHAUST when these babys were tuned on...

i opted for some passive goodness and decided to install some mesh :)

Matrix goodness!

It was decided a good way to monitor temps etc and to add some class to the front would be ti install an LCD.

i may add a hole later for an eject switch...for now windows can do that :)

So not to scratch up the new chassis paint job some grommets are cut in half and used as buffers for the screws.

I stealthed a drive completely, my solution was placing an .exe in the windows and system32 (wasn't sure which was the proper directory). Then made a .bat file I hid the bat file that ejected the rom deep in the system. then made a short cut and placed it in the quick launch with a custom icon. I dont kno if this is the route you'd liek to take but if it is I could give you the .exe i foudn on the net next week when i get my new system/old HD running.

O and by the way still looking killer. You doing nethins special on the mesh exhaust to fancy it up?

Also I have a couple im sure annoying questions. Where did you get the mesh and the on button. Ive seen modders mesh but the stffs holes are too large. About 4 months ago I took a look at home depot and had no luck either. As for buttons i've seena f ew decent at an auto parts store. None I liked at frys or atleast that of the selection I could find, but havent had a chance to look much farther then that.

If you have windows XP, just make a shortcut to the drive on your desktop then when you need to open it just right click and then eject.

EDIT: Sorry, just saw the 'for now windows can do that'

I see what they name the case, but was wondering the product name of the case so I could buy my own. Unless that is a built from scratch case ,but it looks like some manufactured case before it was modded and I was wanting to know so that I perhaps could get one. It has lots of spots for fans which is really nice.

You make cases that look like they are nothing special, run of the mill, ugly cases (excluding the lanboy) fuse into some damn cool computers. Keep it up man.

Zues! soz if i missed sXenoG's question.... all the mesh i use is recycled!

some from monitors some from old speaker grills!!!! the mesh in this mod and others is old security door mesh.... i pick it up froom the local scrap yard where the guy there keeps it for me for freee :)

i clean it up and respray it....... i think its around 20+ a sqr mtr.

I prefer the look of the larger hole and hex holed stuff... but @ 0 cost for sheets of this stuff it will make do!
