i'm sorry is this is in the wrong spot, i think it is but i have no idea where to post it.

i have a left over usb header and 2 wireless usb sticks i want to put in. one is for my mouse and the other for my Nintendo WiFi usb dongle. i don't want them hanging out (there isn't enough cable to put then outside the case). i have stuffed them under the hdd rack. do you think it will still affect the signal strength under all that metal?

Why dont you use the wireless built in to the Wii?

i am... you need to send it internet signals via the wifi connector. you can either use this and hook up a eithernet cable

or what i'm doing with a

so i want to know if covering it up with metal will effect its strength any?

I just thought, why not get a USB extension? Put the wireless away from the Wii completely.. I imagine you want it inside so it doesnt break off right? Plus, you can put it higher than the Wii for better signal too.

How far does the wireless have to go? If you are less than 20ft to the AP, you should be fine. Metal isnt going to block it exactly, but the reflections in the case will cut down on strength for sure. If you are more than 20ft, try it.. might still be acceptable.

i have placed the 2 dongles here,

and my wii right now, is about 20 ft or so and my mouse is close. i guess i will just have to wait until i get the res of the parts an worry about it then. i'm just doing all these things to pass the time until i get it running.

Yes, the metal in the case will affect the signal strength.
I once installed a wireless network at one of my customers sites. I put the antennae behind the glass window of the ticket booth (this was at a movie theatre), and I was only getting about 30% signal strength from less than 100' away. Turns out it was bullet resistant glass and the metal in the glass was interfering with the signal. I mounted the antennae outside, just above the same window and the signal strength jumped to 100%. Use one of the signal meters (or a PSP) to get a signal reading.

i think i'm going to buy some 1 foot usb cables and have them in behind the front cover of my case.

here are some more pictures i took of what i mean exactly if anyone is interested.
