Yeah, I thought I'd try and consolidate them all into one thread, so as I can find them when I come in with sever concussion or something...

Q1): I've removed the motherboard tray-thingy,as it's for an old board, where would I be able to get another one that fits a newer mobo? (Preferably without buying a new case.)

Q2): To remove the mobo tray, I had to remove the rivits from the top section. Now I've done this, quite obviously it won't stay together, is what's the recommended way for holding a former riveted case together. (apart from more rivets...)

Q3): Is there a better way of cutting .5mm thick steel than attacking it with a hacksaw? I don't have a dremel, and I'm trying to make space for two 80mm fans.

Q4): Does screaming at the case until you're blue in the face get the job done any quicker?

Thanks. Now, I've got a case to battle with...

1. When u say it's an old mobo, how old is it? Cause as long it is an atx motherboard, it will fit another board... or microatx.. Don't at least some screw holes line up?

2. Either more rivets or nuts and bults... or glue it somehow, if it needs and can be "final", no mer modding done to it in the future without major surgery..

3. if you have .5mm steel, I think you can cut it with scissors or a knife.. joke.. nibbler, drill, dremel/rotary tool, angle grinder.. or a knife and a powerful friend (been there, really happened)

4.nope.. but it helps when u lose something to swear a lil ;)

if you really want to buy another mobo tray here is a good link. http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210&products_id=3387
theres a good reliable website to buy from, order with confidence.

i dont see the dilemma about reattaching it with new rivets. a pop rivet gun is cheap [$10] and rivets even cheaper. they are really easy to use and durable. thats why companies build cases with rivets :D

easiest way to cut metal with out any "serious" power tools is to just drill a long series of holes along the line and go at it with the hacksaw.

and last time i checked, screaming at metal doesn't help :D

dgrpkrp:
1) I have no idea. I think it's roughly turn-of-the-century-ish. but no, the mountings don't line up. The mobo tray had 6 or 7 bubble like mounts, which correspond to the mounting holes in the mobo, but no holes.

2) I was thinking of bolting it, but gluing it would be interesting. (especially when I glue my fingers to the case. :D)

3) I've finally managed most of it with a mini-hacksaw (oww... my fingers...) and I've measured the thickness of a piece I cut out. It turns out that my estimate of thickness was a little bit out. It's 1mm thick.

snips are the best job for sheet steel. if you dont cut right to the end of the blade they shouldn't warp the metal too much either
