ok well.... my favorite band is Daft Punk and I really like the helmets in this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyBHb3gfr2Q
and im just wondering, do you guys think you can pull it off? (including the electronics in them)
It's not a request but more like a question to see if you guys are able to do it because you guys are good at electronics and bondo-ing stuff. If i wanted one I could buy them but sadly they cost $65,000...each. and you need writen permision from the band.

I think that with enough time and a little bit of money, yes I could. I have a fully equipped shop thats more than capable of handling that sort of thing, and with plenty of time and effort I'm sure I could.

Cool... it turns out the small one is just a chromed motorcycle helmet with leds and stuff...
the actuall helmet is a very simple design and concept. The LEDS are all. controlled by a board in the backpack. The most difficult thing would be the programming to get whatever you wanted to show up. As for price, let say there are 2000 LED's per helmet, on the one helmet witht he multicollored LED's, each LED is a different color because they never change, that would simply need to goto the power supply. The center is the part that changes, that would need to goto the board. On the other, theres less LED's and they are all red. So possible to build? Yes. Tricky to get to work? Yes. But it can be done, for much less than $14,000 (the cost to produce one helmet according to http://www.ledeffects.com/installations/helmets.htm )
NamesAreUseless is correct, both are actually motorcycle helmets. If you were to try, you could get use helmets for dirt cheap, if not free. When a motorcycle helmet is dropped, from any height over 6 inches, it should be replaced because it ruins the structural integrity of the helmet, and that not something you want protecting your head.

I'm just wondering but how do they see out of them?
really? 6 inches? but they are made to handle more than that so how can it ruin the structural integrity (i mean it can but probably in the slightest amounts)

You don't say.... but i doubt you would build one...would you?

With a couple of experienced electronic wizards, a mold maker and some cash, I could build one in my sleep ;) The helmets were fabricated by Alterian, Inc, a company that creates special effects for film and tele.
With the right budget, all is possible. Your question answers itself, its like asking "could you fly a plane if you had a pilot's license"

6 inches yepo ... and from that some years ago I discovered the best sales technique in the world... Turn up on a motorbike, refuse to give the secretary "The Helmet" ("if anyone drops it ... etc"), when you enter the guy's office put The Helmet on his desk and sit down. If e talks to you about the bike you have a sale. If he doesn't leave. lol
There is some stuff about people building lit 70's disco dance floors at home you can find on google. On there you'll find pertinent information about the programming and control.

I don't get this.
Dude, do you want somebody here to do it?
For free?
Are you going to pay them?
