The guys behind http://www.digg.com mainly Kevin Rose has released a new site Pownce (http://www.pownce.com/) basically social networking and file sharing. It comes with a client program which lets you set up folders with files in them that your friends can access and you can access there folders and share pics and music and other stuff.

It is closed and invite only.

I have six invites left for any one who is interested.

Well I dont have any friends on it so far apart from Bucko. But it is pretty dam slick and handy for moving files and pics.

Looks pretty sweet, I can't download the software because it doesn't exist for Linux yet, but despite my initial misgivings about it, I think I'm starting to warm to it slightly.

Kind of reminds me of a server... where you upload your media and you and your friends can access that media from anywhere in the world.

Is it anything like that?

Sort of but different. You guys know tumblr a lot like that. You can also post up linxks and messages for your friends and see theres.

I have six, but I won't give them out to anyone. On the grounds of that pounce... isn't all that cool.

The only real credible function is the file sharing. ....which you can't share copy righted material, obviously. On top of that, it has a 10mb limit. oh come one, Gmail has double that and I can send whatever the heck I want.

So there you have it. Pounce = lame. Go out and get a myspace or facebook for everything but file sharing. For file sharing, get a gmail account.

Unless someone wants to give me a good reason to stay, I think I'm done with Pounce. Although, I did like the few backgrounds that they had. lol They look just like the T-Shirts I wear. ^_^

Yeah, it's still in alpha. I'll give it a little longer, but I'm not sure either. Could be a good way to share Sketchup things though (but that's what the 3D Warehouse is for...)

Nifty enough for me. I mean honestly, I'm trying to get all of my class on it right now so that we can share nifty things, files, and post up still like parties etc.

Plus I'm not about to touch MySpace with a 50 foot pole, I can't be arsed to figure out FaceBook, and anyways, Pownce has a better interface imo and it's relatively new and interesting.

Myspace is just complete trash, no-one who wants anything good out of their lives will use myspace. Facebook isn't too convenient for me either, seeing as it's an American website aimed at uni students. I had to sign up as an 18 year old in order to NOT go to an American school, and you will never be able to find any teenagers on facebook from around here. Gmail is fine for one on one file sharing, but not everyone has a gmail account, and it's far simpler to just upload the file or link on Pownce and automatically send it to all your friends, rather than having to choose each individual email. With Pownce, I can easily share notes, assignments etc with my schoolfriends as well.

Pownce is the best I've seen so far for file sharing through a social or school network, at least for my situation.
