Today was a fun day for me. Woke up at 6:30, showered, and got my wisdom teeth out! YIPPY! Just kidding. My face looks like a fricking puffer-fish, I still have no feeling in my lower lip and chin (though it's starting to come back), I look like I killed an animal with my teeth with the amount of blood caked on my them, and to top it all off, I can't eat much of anything, partly because the mild pain and partly because the size of my lips.
Hope you guys are a having a better day than me!
Ow. Freakin' ow. Still, better than the pain of continually growing wisdom teeth. That's an ache that sucks morning, noon and night.
You'll feel better tomorrow man. Just take it easy as much as possible.
My day has been rather good, so I won't mention anything. ;)

Alright, now I'm pissed. I felt a cold spot on my shirt, and it turns out that because of the lack of feeling in my face, I didn't realize that I'd been drooling on myself for the past 5 minutes.
WTF.

I get an ingrown toenail corrected tomorrow and then I get to go get my driver's license! Yay!
But really, it's gonna be interesting to drive with a hurting foot, but prolly not as bad as it is now, ugh.

Geez.....when I had all four of mine pulled, I was eating pizza that night!
Sorry for the pain, but the drugs are good.

They have a week during basic training called service week, and apparently they service us like used cars.
Their rationale is to do all the work you need during this week so it doesn't come up later.
I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled and 2 of them were not even through the gum yet... They had to slice the gum open, break the tooth apart with a little chisel and pull the pieces out.
The guys in my barracks were helping me pull food out of my craters for a week... "Here's the tweezers Jim, can you get that piece of hamburger for me?"
...and as for...
Geez.....when I had all four of mine pulled, I was eating pizza that night!
That's just asking for trouble. After any extraction, forget about wisdom teeth, they tell you to eat soft foods for 24 hours, no smoking, no straws, etc, you want to build up a scab so you don't get a dry socket because believe me when I say that hurts worse than any wisdom tooth pain.

Ingrown toenails or teeth?

one of my friends just had all four of his taken out last week. they were all impacted too, meaning his gums were cut up to get at them. i told him to get the general anesthetic to knock him out... but NOOO... he just got local freezing. he still felt it, and heard it too, like grinding rocks together in your jaw. not to mention the blood. he told me that once everything was done, they said "ok, your parents are coming so lets get this apron off so they dont freak out."
i know the feeling because ive had two teeth pulled while frozen, and one while not frozen. its not fun. not fun at all. it will get better soon though. mouth wounds tend to heal fast.
get out the tylenol 3, the codeine should help. two of those and you should be nice and loopy.

I was completely out. I had all four taken out (all impacted and coming in horizontally) and for some reason I don't know, my 12-year molars weren't in, so they were debating on whether to take those out or not, so just in case they gave me a double dose of anesthesia...
They put the anesthesia in my arm, said I might feel the medicine, and then BOOM! They were waking me up. Cool thing was, I had absolutely no idea where I was. I was like, WTF, what am I doing in bed again, I just woke up! Then the lady was like, "You're doing great, just bite down on the gauze," and then it made sense again.
I don't know about the Tylenol, but if I feel the need to be loopy, I'll whip out the Vicadin they gave me. Like I said, so far the pain has been just a mild discomfort, and the ibuprofen I took is helping a little with the swelling, so I'm feeling ok right now.
I kept the teeth too. They're pretty sweet

So...um...why would someone need these teeth pulled?
(stupid question, right?) (EDIT: Thx Comp-geek, I had loaded this thread an hour ago before I replied...)
The only surgery I've had was having then put more holes in my nasal area (or something like that). I was about 7 years old at the time but I was put under.

This thread is just so painful to read. I hope I never get wisdom teeth, or I'll have to get them pulled out. I had 5 teeth removed when I got braces, that was bad enough. On the downside though, does that mean I'll never be wise?
I hate it when I end up drooling on myself, I had to get a filling in the holidays. They gave me a double dose of aenesthetic because I have really sensitive teeth, so I couldn't feel half of my mouth. Then I had to go to school to do some art stuff, and I kept having to wipe away the spit surreptitiously. The teacher saw me a couple of times, it was so embarassing.

I've never had any pulled, but I had one grow into the back of my mouth one time,
and I couldn't open my much more that an 1" for a week, and It made my jaw ache real bad.

ya thats pretty fun isnt it? ive had surgery before. i remember them telling me id taste cheese pizza, and i actually did. you're just out within seconds, and then you wake up in recovery. only difference for me was i knew what had happened, and it didnt feel very good at all.
I hope I never get wisdom teeth, or I'll have to get them pulled out.
well chances are you will get them. its a fairly rare case to not have any wisdom teeth at all. ive got three coming in slowly, and they're all coming out because they suck, and i cant brush all the way back there. they either get pulled, or i get cavities big time.
I hate it when I end up drooling on myself,
i hate that too. ive been doing that a lot lately, for no apparent reason. i just space out at work with my mouth open, and then bam... drooling everywhere. i have to figure this out... or shove a sock in my face.

Just got back from having an ingrown toenail corrected. I read my book while they were doing their cut and remove stuff. Didn't really hurt until after it was said and done with and we got on the way home, fun. Ah well, no driver's license test to be taken today... no why couldn't it have been my left foot that had the bad toe?

My sister had that done a couple of years ago. My mom said it was pretty entertaining to watch them slice into her foot.
Anyways, today my face is less puffy, but hurts more. Still just a little over mild discomfort, but annoying nonetheless. I guess after the first 5 or 6 hours, it really isn't all that bad. This morning I woke up around 2:30 because I had some trouble swallowing, and it looks like one of my tonsils is about twice the size it should be. I had some blood in the back of my mouth too, but some water got rid of that.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if I had to have a surgery, I'm glad it was this. Overall, annoying but nothing that isn't unbearable.
i had mine pulled last summer...face all numb....it was really strange....one moment they tell you that you are gonna feel a little stick and the next i woke up in some other room in the dark with an ice pack on my head lol
i slept for the next two days straight

Consider yourself lucky. All 4 of mine came in and then broke up. OUCH!

Should have just elected to get it removed. I had both of the nails on my big toes removed completely. It's A LOT less painful than having the "corrective" surgery. They did that procedure before deciding that they needed to be removed.

They can do that? So you have no big-toe nails? That's freaky SSgt.
Really freaky.

You do know that they grow back after some time right?

(Did I get a promotion? lolz.. )

No.. they dont. I had the first one done when I was 17 (I'm 32), and the last one was done about 3 1/2 years ago.

They took out the nails on either side and killed the roots, should be good for now, I hope. My other toe is having the same problem, or will have, soon and we'll get that one done in a less rushed time, college, trips, driving (starting to) etc. etc.

All of them. And they were coming in horizontally.
No toenails eh? Pretty sweet if you ask me.

I had that done with one of them. It became ingrown again, so they just took the whole nail. Trust me.. removal is much easier and less painful than "corrective".

Meh, my toe hasn't bothered me in a few hours and it doesn't seem like it's going to, if it does come back, then I'll take the next step up. We'll see.
