Can be one or the other...
award bios by pheonix (http://www.phoenix.com/en/Customer+Services/BIOS/AwardBIOS/Award+Error+Codes.htm)

Beep Codes

*

The only AwardBIOS beep code indicates that a video error has occurred and the BIOS cannot initialize the video screen to display any additional information. This beep code consists of a single long beep followed by two short beeps. Any other beeps are probably a RAM (Random Access Memory) problems.

sigh...i hope when i get home today its as simple as removing the RAM and putting it back in....when i installed it i followed the instructions of magazines, my book on build a pc, and the mobo manual...i opened the white tab things on the side lined up the mem and pushed down (i had aligned it with the key thing) it took a good amount of force...is that normal...li was using cosair XMS RAM?

Yep, that's normal. For me anyways. Unless you did something wrong putting the RAM in, you probably have a dead stick :(

It shouldn't take too much force, of you had problems getting both sides to click in, check your key again.
If you can boot past the beep codes, download memtest86 (www.memtest86.com) and test your ram to make sure it's good.

ya they will if its still within a couple of days you can probably just get go get a new set from the store you got it from. otherwise you will have to RMA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_Merchandise_Authorization) it. what are the system specs btw?

I agree with Sly. . Sounds like a Memory Error.

Unplug the computer, Take the memory out,
Put one stick in at a time make sure its seated properly.
Turn it back on and see if it beeps, each stick separately.
